Father shakes his head as he sips his wine. "I can see you know nothing of wizards. They are like winter thunder on a wild wind rolling in from a distance, breaking hard in alarm. But sometimes a storm is just a storm." Furrowing my brows at father's word as Gandalf would never steer us wrong on purpose.

"Not this time. Armies of orcs are on the move. And these are fighters! They have been bred for war. Our enemy has summoned his full strength."

"Why show his hand now?" Father asks pouring himself more wine.

"Because we forced him! We forced him when the company of Thorin Oakenshield set out to reclaim their homeland." Gandalf explains loudly. "The dwarves were never meant to reach Erebor; Azog the Defiler was sent to kill them. His master seeks control of the mountain. Not just for the treasure within, but for where it lies, its strategic position."

"Strategic position? Strategic position for what?" I ask as we all leave the tent and look at the gates of Erebor.

"This is the gateway to reclaiming the lands of Angmar in the north. If that fell kingdom should rise again, Rivendell, Lothlorien, the Shire, even Gondor itself will fall!" Gandalf mutters as we continue to stare Erebor, realizing how much more is at risk now.

"These orc armies you speak of, Mithrandir where are they?" Father asks looking at Gandalf waiting for answers. When Gandalf doesn't answer father nods and heads back into his tent leaving Gandalf and Bard to themselves as I follow after father.

"Why are you ignoring Gandalf's warning father?" I ask entering the tent looking at him.

"I'm not ignoring his warning Brynn." He answers drinking another glass of wine.

"I think you've had enough wine for one day father." I say snatching his glass of wine from his hand. "And it seems to me that you are dismissing his warning by questioning. Ada, Gandalf clearly knows something we do not and if we do not heed to his warning it'll doom us all." (Father/dad) I explain worriedly not just for the dwarves for us all.

"You fear for your dwarvish friends Brynn." He answers standing up while holding his hand out waiting for me to give his glass of wine back.

I shake my head no and drink his wine so he can't have any. "That's not entirely true, I'm worried for everyone, you heard Gandalf, father. If Azog wins by killing Thorin along with everyone else claims the mountain then all the lands will fall to darkness. We can't allow that to happen."

Father stares at me and grabs my hand gently pulling me close to him giving me a tight hug. Hugging back I'm a little confused as to why he's doing this. "I don't want to lose you Brynn, I know there's a war coming I had a feeling all this time. I didn't want to believe it in fear I'd lose you to the war......I can't lose anyone else that I love." He whispers looking at me with sorrow in his eyes as he caressed my cheek. "I never meant those words earlier Brynn, I would choose you and your brother over all the gems in the world any day nothing is more precious to me than my children."

Smiling warmly I feel a few tears run down my cheek hearing his words which makes father wipe them away and plane a gentle kiss to my forehead gently. "I love you father." I whisper.

"I love you too Brynn, and everything I do is to protect you and I really hope you know that. I love you and your brother more than you'll ever know." He says hugging me gently. Nodding I hug him back gently and I rest my head against his chest listening to his heartbeat. After a bit we pull away and I smile up my father and he smiles down at me before the tent cloth pulls apart to reveal Gandalf, Bard, and Bilbo!?

"Bilbo! Oh am I glad to see you!!! So overjoyed to see you safe!" I smile.

"Brynn! I didn't think I'd see you again!" He says happily walking over to me and gives me a tight hug. Hugging back I smile so glad to know he's safe.

"Kili? And the others? Are they safe?" I ask bending down to him so we're making eye contact.

"Yes Kili, is safe and well. So are the others...well not so much Thorin, Brynn he's driving himself mad." Bilbo explains.

"So I've heard Bilbo, so I've heard. How bad is it?" I ask.

"Very bad, if he gets the Arkenstone Brynn, it'll destroy him from the inside out." Sighing quietly I nod and squeeze Bilbo's shoulders gently and stand up looking at everyone.

"I came...to give you this." Bilbo says placing the Arkenstone on the table in front of my father.

"The Arkenstone." I whisper as we all stare at its beauty.

"The heart of the mountain! The King's Jewel." Father says delightfully to see it.

"And worth a king's ransom. How is this yours to give?" Bard asks stepping forward to it.

"And how did you get it?" I add in standing next to father.

"I took it as my fourteenth share of the treasure." Bilbo explains looking at us.

"Why would you do this? You owe us no loyalty." Bard informs Bilbo making sure he knows what he's doing.

"I'm not doing it for you. I know that dwarves can be obstinate and pigheaded and difficult, suspicious and secretive...with the worst manners you can possibly imagine, but they also brave and kind...and loyal to a fault. I've grown very fond of them, and I would save them if I can." Bilbo explains with thoughtful look on his face as he looks at all of us and then stares at me with a smile.

"As would I Master Baggin." I smile back. "I would do anything to save them."

"Now, Thorin values this stone above all else. In exchange for its return, I believe he will give you what you are owed. There will be no need for war!" Bilbo says unraveling us his plan to make sure there is no war.

"Brilliant idea halfling, but I really don't think that would work." Father says.

"It's worth a try father." I say being optimistic of Bilbo's plan.

"Guess it's all we got." Father nods.

Once we come to an agreement Gandalf and Bilbo leave the tent and so does Bard leaving me and my father to ourselves. Sitting down in a chair I push my hair back and stare at the ground can't believe what's happening. "I'm sorry." I say finally breaking the silence between father and I.

"For what?" Father asks looking at me.

"For making Thorin sound like he would honour his promise." I quietly say looking at him.

"You have nothing to apologize for. I understand you want to see the good in someone especially if you've been with for so long, but sometimes the evil of gold will corrupt the mind and heart of people." He says gently crouching in front of me as he grabs my hands in his.

Nodding I look into his eyes and sigh. "I don't want to go war with them." I whisper.

"I know you don't Brynn, but it may happen and you need to be prepared if it does come down to that." He says pushing some of my hair back.
