Life is about making mistakes. And to learn from them. We always want life to be perfect, like a spotless handkerchief or a perfect movie with a happy ending. Unfortunately, life is always full of disappointment and mishaps. But we should learn how to adapt from them and to learn how to adjust our expectations.

I am currently teaching and I witness so many students being notoriously naughty and active. I do not blame them because kids are just kids. They just do what kids do. However, I do not know  how to cope sometimes because their behaviours fall short of my expectations. I always picture how kids are good and behaving at school and how they pay attention to teachers, their cute little faces, etc. But this is not the case at all, actually.

Sometimes, we have got to learn that life is not always as perfect as we envisioned it to be. People have flaws, systems have flaws and even we ourselves have our own flaws. It is important to note how to manage other's expectations, as well as our own. After all, we are just human beings and being flawless is never within human beings' capabilities. Learning to survive in society, we need to know how to get along with others by managing our own expectations towards different things through putting on different hats and taking different perspectives. Essentially we also need to remind ourselves that people are not saints. They are just like ourselves, human beings, with flaws and their own weak spots. In order to get along better with others, we need to step into others' shoes and think from their perspectives. What are they going through? What makes them sad or angry? Indeed, being empathetic is one of the humanistic qualities that teach us how to love.

Life essentially is not easy. Everyone is figuring out how to push through every day. Everyone is living in their struggles and difficulties so do not judge others if you do not know or understand what they are going through. The world does need a bit of empathy to make it a better place. Even though life is hard, dark and dim sometimes, the important thing to note is that you know there are people around you who love and support you. And that is all that matters.
