Chapter 8

Ariel's point of view

Kinakabahan ako. It is not as if this is my first time doing on-the-job training. Nag OJT na rin naman ako before nung senior high school, but this one is kind of different. It feels like I'm in the real world of the industry that I want to pursue.

Are you still with me?" masungit na sabi nung lalaki sa akin. He's like my brother. A beautiful creature of God, a gay.

He smiled.

"Yes. Lalo na ang CEO ng kumpanya. Silang dalawa ang kinakatakutan dito. Mag jowa daw kasi. Maraming nagsasabi. Pero di ako naniniwala, you wanna know why?"

"Why?"

"Atin lang to ah? But the truth is, they were not."

"I don't think she's the one behind that gossip."

"Well, we never know. It's just a little thing of ours to her.

Dahil siguro nakuha ko pang ipagtanggol ang supervisor namin dito sa accounting department, and not being on their side. I'm just being fair with them. Di ko pa alam ang totoo. I'm just stating my opinion to him.

"Sir..."

"It's Jayda. Just call me Jayda." He directed me.

"But your name..." "Okay, I get that. Jayda. Beautiful name."

Mabilis niyang tinago ang pangalan sa kaniyang ID as if di ko pa nababasa yun.

"I know right? So, is there anything else that I could do for you?" he asked.

"No." Umiling ako sa tanong niya. "Thank you."

Jared will be here after he submits his report for today to train you. And oh, by the way. Please do well, ayaw namin ng palpak sa department na 'to. Since mabilis kang nakapasok dito sa kumpanya we expect so much from you, don't put shame in our department. Good luck with your work."

I don't know if he's kind or rude to me. What's more important is he was polite and escorted me here to my office table. Thank him for that. He was still the one who approached me first in this facility.

I started fixing things on my table. I checked the papers, double-checked my assignments, and which one I'll handle.

Imagine, this is just my first day.

"Hi."

"Jared?"

"The one and only, welcome to the team, fresh accountant." He smirked.

There's something in his smirk that makes me annoyed. He's such a cool man. What a good greeting to start a conversation.

"Hello. Nice to meet you. I... uh, don't know where to start in these papers so I.. um, started to this one." I get the report of yesterday's income of The Rolierstone Construction. "What? Did I do something wrong?"

"No. I, uh, was amazed. You're not a beginner, don't you?"

"I study a lot in this field. Of course, I want to be on the top of this endeavor so I must learn a lot, which could be everything in this business. Right?"

"Right. Well, Jayda will investigate that incident. So you shouldn't be working on this one. I'm confused about why you got these papers though."

"It's already in here since Jayda escorted me here to my table."

"She must forget about these reports. I'll ask her to get this later."

"I see, akala ko sa akin nakatoka yung report na yun kaya trinabaho ko."

"It took you only 10 minutes to study that case and almost finish the incident report? Impressive."

Hindi ako nag reply sa sinabi niya. I don't know what to reply though. I chose to be silent instead and gave him a bit smile.

"By the way, it was nice meeting you freshi,"

"Freshi?"

"Oo. Freshi. As in fresh. Bakit?"

"I have a name.

So ano ka?

It was all about technology now. Jared was there to teach me how to do it on a computer. Though I do have a little knowledge when it comes to it kaya di na ganun kahirap sa akin matutunan mga tinuturo niya sa akin.

"I'm impressed. Really. Just being honest, you're good at your work." Jared couldn't hold his breath. Paulit-ulit niya akong pinupuri. Hindi katulad nung iba niyang trinain before me. "Now I know why they hired you that fast. You were special." There was something to the last word he says.

Hindi ko na lamang pinagtuunan ng pansin. I don't want to be as delusional as our boss like what Jayda says. I just need the certificate, and after I get that, I'm done with this company. Hindi ito ang dream company ko and it will never be. I do have other plans after I graduate. I'm not going to be stuck here like what others did. I am more than that.
