I think this is the longest I've gone without updating.
She pushed the door in.
"I'm home!"
Silence.
"Mom? Dad?"
Silence.
"Where are you guys?"
She ran from one room to the other, pushing open doors only to find the room empty.
She told herself to remain calm.
There was no use jumping to conclusions. It could be possible that they had gone shopping, or to see a movie, or to have dinner.
But there was this gnawing feeling in her stomach telling her otherwise.
She pulled out her phone.
Please pick up.
"Hey you've reached the voicemail of-"
That was when Maia lost it.
So she rang the only person who would always answer.
"Hello? Maia, what's wrong?"
"Oliver, there's no one at home and my mom's not picking up her phone and I think something's wrong because she always picks up." That's when she had to take a breath because her tears were clogging up her vocal cords.
"Breathe, love. Call your dad. I'll be there before you know it."
She sniffed, "Okay."
She dialed her dad.
It rang.
And rang.
And rang.
And then,
"Hello?"
