Luciana Point of View:
I was able to force myself to the surface, desperate for a breath of air. However, it wasn't long before I was forced back under by the raging, rushing water. No matter how long it took, I planned to fight my way out of the current.
I don't know how long I had been fighting against the water for, but my lungs were screaming at me for more than a single breath of air. My legs were beginning to become tired as well.
Before I got pulled under again, I spotted the sliver of hope. I struggled to swim towards the edge of the canal. If I wanted to survive, I needed to be prepared for when the moment struck.
I took as big of a breath as I could so I could focus on my escape. I held my arms out. As soon as I felt the algae covered ladder brush against my finger tips, I tried to get a grip on the slippery metal.
I had to carefully pick my next move, or I might be pulled to the bottom. Once I had a proper grip on the ladder I placed my feet on the first step and slowly pulled myself to the top of it.
Next thing I knew, I collapsed on the cement. My legs were shaking from exhaustion as I finally had a moment to rest. While fighting for my life, I had completely forgotten about Nicolas and Mia. I just knew I wasn't going swimming for quite some time.
Once I caught my breath, I forced myself up from the comforting concrete. My legs still felt like jelly as I took a few slow steps.
The first thing I needed to do was to figure out where I was. I began walking away from the water in a straight line, just to be sure I didn't get any more lost than I already was.
The sky was still dark so I doubt anyone would be up to ask for directions. More like threaten someone for directions or perhaps some money for a train.
I did the only thing I could, I kept walking. I must have zoned out since the sun was now beginning to rise over the horizon.
I stopped dead in my tracks once I saw the light flicker. It was my saving grace. My feet instantly began to move towards the diner. The lamppost outside was lighting up the building's entrance perfectly.
My hands were incredibly shaky as I reached for the handle of the door. It refused to budge as I began to pull it. Then I noticed it... The large open sign wasn't lit up. It was mocking me.
My face fell as I stepped away from the door ashamed. I had no idea what time it was, or if this place was going to open any time soon. I held my head low as I took a seat on the steps. I didn't know what else to do, other than sit here and hope they opened soon.
I stared at the gravel for who knows how long. Someone tapped me on the shoulder, pulling me from my daze. My head snapped to see who it was. It was a woman.
"Sorry to scare you. I noticed you out here, and just wanted to let you know we are open now", She apologized.
I stood up and turned to face her. My heartbeat increased when I took a good look at her. She was beautiful. Her fiery red hair stood out against her sun kissed skin, and her hazel eyes were staring at me.
"You look like shit", She mumbled.
I glanced down at myself. She was correct, I was looking rough. My clothes were still a bit damp, and had mud spots scattered about.
I chuckled, "I guess I do."
She blushed," I swear I didn't mean to say that outloud."
I smiled. "It's alright."
She paused, "You can order anything on the house, since I was incredibly rude to you."
"Are you sure?"
