Chapter Thirty one

"EMERGENCY!"

Kaagad akong napatingin nang bumukas ang pinto ng emergency room at sunod sunod na pumasok ang tatlong stretcher with a patients on it na tulak tulak ng mga rescuers.

Mabilis akong lumapit sa ikalawang bed dahil mayroon ng nauna sa unang stretcher.

"What happened?" I asked the rescuers while helping them. "One, two, three!" Inilipat namin ang pasyente sa isang bed.

"Car accident. The car hits the tree, three patients are unconscious while the driver is dead on arrival." Mabilis ang sagot ng rescuer.

I immediately get my humble penlight from my pocket and check the patients eyes. The main purpose of a penlight is to assess pupil response, or how fast the pupils constrict when suddenly exposed to a bright light. But this patient is not responding so I tried tapping his cheek to wake him up.

"Sir! Sir! Can you hear me, sir?"

Napahinga ako ng konti nang gumawa ng maliit na tunog ang pasyente.

"Does it hurt anywhere, sir?" I asked the patient.

He groaned before nodding his head and pointing his lower abdomen. I immediately instructed the nurse who's assisting me to give me the humble ultrasound. Agad ko iyong pinaraan sa kaniyang stomach at nakitang malala ang tama n'ya sa abdomen.

"What's the patient condition?"

I look at the doctor who just arrived. Our head surgeon arrived. He put alcohol first before pressing his hand on the patients stomach and reviewing it's reaction.

"There's a internal bleeding on his lower abdomen, doc. Also, there are excessive bleedings in some of his internal organs."

The doctor instructed the nurses and I assist him. As soon as me and the our head surgeon finished doing our thing in that patient, I helped other doctors.

And my day last doing that usual routine of mine.

Six years.

It's been six years.

I'm already at my second year of residency.

Years ago, I didn't had the chance to stop my med school. I was offered by the school a 100% free tuition and residency here in Canada. Nagdalawang isip pa ako bago ko tanggapin dahil natakot ako para sa mga kapatid ko. Sa mga naranasan nila nung lumayo ako, natrauma na ako. Pakiramdam ko mapapabayaan ko ulit sila kapag ‘di ko sila nakikita. But my siblings pushed me to accept it.

We were offer a help from Desiree's real father and aminin ko man o hindi, it really helped us a lot.

"Ang lalim ng iniisip ni doc!"

Napatingin ako sa kaibigang nurse na tumabi sa akin.

"Iniisip ko lang kung bakit hindi ka gusto ni doc Gilbert." biro ko.

Nakita kong sumimangot siya kaya tumawa ako.

"Napakasama ng ugali mo!"

"Bakit ba kasi andito ka?!"

Nasa on call room kasi kami ng mga resident doctors dito sa hospital. I just finished my duty and I was about to go home. Nang tingnan ko s'ya ay malawak na s'yang nakangiti sa akin kaya umirap ako.

"Tigilan mo ako, Juliana! Pagod ako!"

Alam ko na agad ang ibig sabihin ng mga ngiting iyon. Juliana is a Filipina na naging kaibigan ko mula nang mapunta ako dito sa Canada. She was a nurse who chose to work here abroad dahil mas mataas ang sahod.
