Chapter 11: Eavesdropping

"Lisa, woman, are you crazy? Why didn't you answer my calls? Do you know how many times I called you since last night?" As soon as the call connected, Eunha's anxious voice could be heard from the other end of the line.

Lisa moved closer to the mirror and spotted a pimple on her face. She was a little unhappy. She thought that she should head to a Beauty Club to do her beauty, but she didn't know which club had better services. Should she go and check her bag to see which Beauty Club's VIP card she had?

As she thought about these questions, she casually replied, "I'm sorry, I just only got a hold of my phone. You do remember that I ended up falling off a building the other day when I threatened Jungkook for a divorce, so I didn't know where it went. It was only when I remembered it this morning that I asked the attendants at home and found out that Jungkook helped me pack my things and brought them home that very day. I was thinking of buying a new one today, but I guess there's no need for that now."

When she heard from Lisa that Jungkook was so attentive to her, Eunha was very unhappy, but she was already used to holding it in, so she reined in her emotions. "You know, I saw you chasing after him yesterday, and I was worried that Jungkook would do something to you. I was afraid that something might have happened to you, and I couldn't contact you. That was why my tone was so harsh, just now."

Lisa made a gagging expression in front of the mirror and said perfunctorily, "I know. Eunha, you've always been the best to me."

After she had crossed that hurdle, Eunha immediately brought up the pressing matter in her mind. "Speaking of which, why didn't you pick a fight with Jungkook yesterday? Why did you chase after him, instead? Did you want something from him?"

Jungkook , who had forgotten an important document and had rushed back from the company, happened to be on the second floor. Just as he was about to open the door and enter the study, he heard the phone ringing in Lisa's room. His hand paused, and he didn't open the door, but listened quietly.

Jungkook was also very curious to know why Lisa would chase after him and change her mind about not signing the divorce papers.

Lisa was unaware that Jungkook was outside the door. As she popped her pimples, she casually said, "I wanted something from Jungkook, of course. The moment I spotted him, it set in. Although he agreed to the divorce, we haven't settled the terms in the divorce papers yet."

Eunha's heart tightened at the mention of the divorce agreement. "Didn't you say that you'd agree to whatever conditions Jungkook sets, as long as a divorce is happening?"

Lisa continued working in front of the mirror. "Originally, I thought so too. But while I lay in the hospital bed, I realized the gravity of the situation. It's a full-fledged. If I don't make something out of him, I'd be at a huge disadvantage. If I get a divorce, I'd have to prepare for a second marriage."

Outside the door, Jungkook heard Lisa's words and laughed self-depreciatingly. So this was her plan, and that was why she tore up the divorce

But after having a moment for his thoughts, he was a little uncertain. Something did not add up. If Lisa was simply trying to gain more benefits from him, then she would not have mentioned anything along the lines of him being "very generous" after reading the divorce papers last night.

On the other end of the phone, Eunha's reaction was much more intense than the two prospective divorcees. She had set her heart on becoming Mrs. Jeon, so in Eunha's eyes, Jungkook's assets were her assets.

Lisa was aiming to get more of Jungkook's assets. Wasn't that the same as taking her assets?

"No!" She shouted into the phone in agitation.

After that outburst, she realized that she had lost her composure. She was afraid of arousing Lisa's suspicion, so she continued, "Haven't you been in a hurry to divorce him? He's finally agreed to your request, so you should hurry up and get him to sign it. What if Jungkook reneges on his promise? So, I think the most important thing now is to sign the divorce papers with him."

Although Eunha reacted quickly and gave an explanation, Jungkook, who had heard every word outside the door, knew that something was wrong.

From what Eunha said, why was she in such a hurry to get Lisa to divorce him? The urgency in her attitude was even more extreme than Lisa's. What puzzled Jungkook even more was how Lisa seemed to take it all in stride.
