Y/N's POV, 2022
When you'd lived the rockstar life for as long as I had, nothing could ever surprise you again yet Nikki still always managed to near that because even after all these years he still fascinates me.
We met in 1985 when I was only nineteen, we met and just clicked, we met by accident, I was walking my dog and my dog saw a cat and because I wasn't expecting the reaction he pulled me down the street and just so coincidently straight into Nikki who was walking out into my path.
I apologised and he laughed it off, telling me not to worry about it and somehow from there got talking, exchanging numbers and eventually falling in love.
We'd had ups and downs, taken a couple of breaks from each other over the years due to Nikki's ego and stubbornness, refusing to listen and making everything a personal attack but he'd always come to his senses and we'd always worked things out because we loved each other, so so much.
We'd been married for twenty three years despite having known each other well beyond that, we'd never rushed getting married, by the time we got married in 1999, we'd already had three kids, we didn't care about getting married really, but we did it because we felt it was better for the kids.
I loved everything about Nikki even his flaws, and one of my favourite things about him was his songwriting talent, he's written some of the best songs I'd ever heard and he had a way with words that could just resonate with you even if you couldn't relate to what he wrote, and that's when you know you're good at writing when you can do that. That's on another level.
Despite the lack of music being made right now, Nikki still regularly wrote songs, they just stayed on his phone mostly as that's where he now wrote all of his lyrics, there were talks amongst the band of a new album which would be certainly be a great thing for the fans and for Nikki to use up the cache of songs Nik had accumulated.
He always got lost in his art, zoning out completely and only focusing on the task at hand. It was a pastime of mine to watch Nikki write songs, I liked the look on concentration on his face as he found words that worked together and the excitement when he finally found something that fit. It was a childish excitement that was so endearing, regardless of Nikki's certain difficulty personality qualities, he did have this aura around him that drew you in and you couldn't help but love, because he was a huge goofball sometimes, or just shamelessly plain ass adorable.
It was getting late into the evening, I'd been doing some late night washing and general house work while Nikki sat nose deep in writing a 'passion project' as he dubbed it, the idea having hit him this morning and he hadn't left it since.
I was humming 'Home Sweet Home' as I finished up my work for the evening, Nikki recognised the tune as I walked back into the living room and began to sing along making me laugh as I sat next to him "You don't have quite the same delivery as Vince."
"No, but... I can still do it justice."
"In your own mind perhaps." I hummed jokingly "Do you mind if I watch you? I can always disappear again if it's easier for you."
"No. Go ahead." Nikki says casually "You're going to be a distraction but... I could probably do with one after staring at this screen most of the day."
