Lovesong of the Day:

California by Lana Del Rey

TODAY WAS YET ANOTHER HUGE DAY IN THE HYPEGIRL CANON, ABSOLUTELY MASSIVE YET AGAIN. Y'all don't get to know immediately, however. There's some really important context needed before I provide the big reveal.

So, this all starts on the way to rehearsals. I was walking with W, since we both have the same 9th period together, when she suddenly says to me, "Your sister (D) knows my crush but I don't know hers." She basically told me that she thought it was a little unfair. So then, with fake curiosity, I asked, "Who's A?" in a goofy tone. She only ever refers to K as A, so that's why I said that. To follow up my question, I then said, "I don't know any guys with A names on [your team]."

For context on the teams, my middle school separates both grades into 3 teams. When I said that about the guys on W's team, I said it because of our team system. I also said this knowing darn well that not only is K not a guy, but she's also on MY team, not hers.

Moving on, W then responded with, "Who said they were on [my team]?" Again, I already knew that her crush wasn't even on her team. We continued walking to the auditorium where the rehearsals were being held, knowing that K  would be there as well. Since we had a two-hour delay today due to cold temperatures, we had no morning announcements. Because of that, rehearsals were the only time K and W saw each other.

Not much happened during the rehearsal itself, aside from K and W getting very close to each other backstage. They're both also very tall, nearly 6 foot actually, so their faces were also right by each other. D and I were kind of freaking out because NOBODY gets that close to their crush.

It's after rehearsals where things get extremely juicy. K, D, and I all had to stay a bit after rehearsal, since K's mom was taking us all home. So, we were all alone together in the hall by the front doors. Thinking back to W talking to me about all the crushes, I said to D, "W told me that you know her crush but that she doesn't know your crush and I think that's a little unfair." Little did I know that me saying that would change literally everything.

K was nearby when I said that and then she got... weirdly tip-toey? It was a little confusing and then she started saying she thought she knew. She asked me if I knew and I, once again pretending to be clueless, replied, "No, but I think it's a 7th grade boy and I know D knows." D and K then both started beating around the bush together, both trying to confirm their suspicions about what the other knew. This kind of teasing for answers continued for around 3 minutes, with me trying not to blow my cover the entire time.

That was until I decided I was going to fully break my cover because this back and forth had been going on for way too long. Acting like something had just hit me, I went wide-eyed and put my hand over my mouth. However, nothing had hit me and in fact, what had "hit me" I knew from the very second K started acting all tip-toey...

I knew that W already confessed to K.

A bombshell that I'd hidden when it hit me.

"Does she like you?" I asked.

K then said, "Maybe.." which confirmed the suspisions of D and I. She then started telling us about how she confessed to her ALL THE WAY BACK IN NOVEMBER. W ALREADY CONFESSED A WHOLE MONTH BEFORE SHE EVEN TOLD D AND WHEN D TOLD ME. By the way, D did eventually tell K that my cluelessness was an act.

The November conversation goes a bit like this: W asked K how she came to terms with her own sexuality and then that turned to her talking to K about her current relationship with her sexuality. W talked about how she thinks guys are really hot but when she's friends with a sweet girl, she sometimes feels a certain type of way. W then told K that she liked a girl and after guessing a bunch of different girls, including D and I, she asked if W liked her. She then confessed.

Through all of this, I also found out that K finally has another crush. I'm not going to bug her about it and the only thing I know is that it specifically isn't a journalism boy. So it could be a journalism girl, non-journalism boy, non-journalism girl, or anyone gender-nonconforming in either category.

Now for the only thing  I actually planned for today, a one-year anniversary special/update of one of the Matchmaker entries. On January 16, 2023, I published an entry saying that I didn't know what to do because I thought that C had a crush on me. Well, it's been a year since and I want to provide an update on that whole situation and explain my current relationship with him.

So, did he ever like me?

No, no he didn't. I was making a big deal out of nothing back then. In fact, if I'm remembering correctly, all this overthinking started because our hands brushed a few times and, as an avid fanfiction reader, I came to the conclusion that something was up. As it turns out, they were all coincidental.

If I haven't already mentioned, C and I are best friends now. It started when I got his number in May. At the time, I was trying to get his number to try and get him and M together, as I shipped them at the time. However, a part of me really just wanted to talk to him and just become his friend. I'd felt that way since he opened up to me about F's attempt. So, I took that opportunity and did get his number.

Now, we barely talked until back to back traumatic situations from July. During the first event, I texted everyone in my phone and he just so happened to be the first to respond which I didn't expect at all. We then talked for the next two days when yet another event hit, this time affecting both of us. F got into a nasty family situation and C added me to a group chat with them to help him with that situation. Fast forward 6 months and now, that's our group chat that we use to talk every single day.

Now, if C didn't like me then who did he like? Well, during most of my time writing Matchmaker, he liked a girl in the grade above that was a friend of mine. Out of the 2 people I actively shipped him with, he never liked either of them. The only people I mentioned in the journal that he ever liked to my knowledge were K, in 5th grade, and F & G in 6th grade.
