( CHAPTER TWENTY-SIX )
CAN YOU BELIEVE ME FOR ONCE?

CHAOS HAS ALWAYS been something present at various times in Eden Winslow's life.

In her entire life, there never seemed to be a moment where she could finally just sit up in bed, turn the music up, and just not worry about what was going to happen the next day. She would like to be able to walk on the beach, her feet in the sand and just live in the present moment without being attacked by Kooks or Pogues. Without feeling like she was always choosing a side on the island. But it wasn't possible. Outer Banks was literally the definition of enemies. She could never find peace between the two tribes. She could just never find peace at all.

But there was also chaos in her family. Since her childhood, even since the day she was born, it was as if this family of four ( Thomas, Yasmina, Eden and Noah ) was a prison from which she could never escape completely intact. There have always been conflicts between the parents, and, even though Noah and Eden were once inseparable siblings, fate caused these two young children to drift further and further away from each other until so that they show themselves against both. Because Eden hasn't felt close to her brother for years. Since the day Yasmina laid her hands on her cheeks, Eden began to believe that she could never achieve the perfection that Noah had. Yasmina has somehow torn apart the one relationship that should never be torn apart, and stay together.

But now the difficulty was no longer with the same people. Thomas was no longer there, and a new person had taken his place since his disappearance, which had only made what Eden was already experiencing in her family worse. The arrival of Fred Barrow only increased the hatred the girl had already formed towards the two remaining people in her house. She never wanted to be the ungrateful and mean girl, she always did her best when she was young to be the best she could be, but when a man other than her father set foot in the house, it was as if they were forcing her to accept this without her being able to adapt to it at her own pace. Eden no longer felt good about it, being close to a person who just showed up in their circle of three after Thomas' sudden disappearance. And everything slowly degenerated when she collected the pieces of the story, and . . . she left. She left to join another chaos that never seemed to stop.

The Winslow girl had already spent years with the Pogues, facing small dangers, and she loved it. Being with them made her forget everything that was happening at home, and everything that would happen when she returned home. She had found a kind of peace with them, and she never missed a single day with them. Because missing those days had to leave her at home with the parents arguing like two irresponsible adults. It was something that every Pogue shared : problems with parents. To tell the truth, Pope Heyward was perhaps the only one with whom all young people could feel at ease with their parents. Regardless, what it means is that Eden has already faced chaos while being with the Pogues. She knew that with them nothing was ever simple or calm.
