We woke up the next day and before El could finish her breakfast, she ran outside of the house. "El!" I yelled out.

"Wow she's really excited about this vacation, huh?" Helga asked. I chuckled. "You have no idea."

We ran out to find her kneeling in the Sand and mounding a sandcastle. I grabbed my camera and I snapped pictures of her. Helga laid down the towel and sat down in her two-piece.

She was a gorgeous lady. Her beautiful curves were so prominent and she had toned muscles everywhere. She had dark brown hair and blue eyes that were mesmerising. How doesn't she have a boyfriend? Unbelievable.

I helped El make a tiny sandcastle and she was more than excited to see the result. I chuckled as she clapped her hands.

It was unfortunate however, with the turn of events of the waves that came crashing into her and melting away.

She frowned and stood up, stomping on the ground. She glared daggers at the ocean and screamed.

"You're so mean!" She screamed. I laughed with Helga. "Elora, why don't you do it a little further from the water?" Helga asked. "I'm tired!"

Helga got up and walked with her. "Come on, let's play with the water, okay?" She asked. El nodded. They both walked into the water and the waves crashed against them but the tight grip Helga had on the little child let me relax a bit.

It's odd. I know how much I trusted Helga. But when it came to Elora, I wouldn't trust a single soul with her. Except for granny because she raised her up with me too.

I joined them and we splashed water against each other, getting the sand in our shorts, hair and ears. Elora sat on the water and she sighed, content.

"Elora? Did you just pee?" I asked. She giggled and blushed. "I'm sorry! I couldn't hold it!" Helga and I roared in laughter and I picked her up.

"I'm gonna make you wash your own shorts, now." I smirked. "No! The soap is too slippery!"

"Exactly. It's fun." I grinned. She frowned and slipped to the ground. Helga went to shore and grabbed my camera.

"Come on, kids. I wanna have a picture of you two." El ams I stood side by side and she clicked the picture just in time for a seagull to hover above us.

"Big Bird!" El shouted. "Definitely a big one, kid." I grinned.

Helga turned the camera to us and she grinned at the camera.

"Guys! Selfie!" She said. I put out a peace sign and she smiled at me. "God, I finally have two nieces and I'm so happy." She said.

I smiled.

I'm happy too, Helga. You have no idea.

Helga went in to make lunch and we played outside her beach house. Elora sat at the stairs and she looked at me.

"Cora?" "Yeah, kid?" I looked back at her.

"Are you tired?" I smiled. "No."

"Not beach tired. I mean...tired of daddy?"

I looked away from her and I smiled. "You know what? I'm so tired that I can't get enough sleep. But now I'm here and I can." I got up and I sat next to her.

"I want you to understand, kid. I'm trying to keep this place a little happier for you. So here's the deal, you protect me I'll protect you?"

She grinned and nodded. "Of course!" I smiled and kissed her cheek. "I love you kiddo." "I love you too, Cora!" Helga stood at the top of the stairs and grinned.

"Come on, kids. Let's eat."

We went in and had our lunch. "This is amazing!" I said.

"Yeah, it's been a while since I cooked. I stole granny's recipe." I laughed.

"It's ironic how you can steal from her and also be an FBI agent." I smirked.

"You gotta compromise, doll." I chuckled.

"It's been a while since I've had your cooking, Helga. I can't get enough of this." I smiled.

"Well, have as much as you can. It might be a while." I frowned and kept quiet. Not now, Cora.

Elora stretched and yawned.

"Kid’s sleepy." I said. I took her hand and I smiled. "Come on, it's nap time." I said. "Okay."

I tucked her in bed and she closed her eyes slowly. I caressed her head slowly, singing a soft song and she dozed off. I smiled and I sat on the next bed. If she was sleeping, so was I.

I closed my eyes and I pushed my thoughts away. I knew I had to put up with dad somehow. I just had to. And I had to find an escape before he killed me. Or worse before he kills my little girl.

**

After dinner, I put Elora back to bed and I went to the living room. I sat down on the chair and I relaxed a little bit.

Helga sat next to me and smiled.

"I've been meaning to ask, what's with the bruises on your head?" Shit the water washed it away.

"I tripped yesterday on my way back. Slipped on some algae or...something, I don't know." I shrugged.

"Oh, you gotta be careful where you walk." I smiled.

"Listen, doll. I have something to tell you."

"What is it?"

"Don't feel bad, okay. But I got transferred to New Jersey. I'm gonna be in charge of the department over there."

"What?" I asked, sitting up. She frowned.

"I'm sorry, doll. I tried to tell them to let me stay here. I could take you but it would be a difficult thing with your father and mother."

"Yeah, well...you should take us anyway."

"I can't. I'm sorry." I nodded. I looked away. I was pissed off. But I had to accept it. Nothing came easy. Nothing.

"Why are you staying at granny's?" She asked.

"I just wanted my parents to have a vacation from us for a few weeks." "Really?" "Yeah." I spoke blandly and she had a feeling I didn't wanna talk.

She got up and walked away before stopping. She looked at me and she smiled. "Goodnight, doll."

I clenched my jaw and sighed, looking out the window. Well, that's just fucking brilliant.

It's gonna be so fucked up after this and I was not ready for it at all. I had to stay strong for Elora. Because I knew she looked up to me to protect her. To keep her safe. To tell her it would be okay.

I got up and I walked to her room. I looked at her as she dozed off. I sighed and I sat on the other bed, licking my eyes on the little angel.

I knew what I had to do. And if I fell into a situation where I had to run, I'd fucking run.

I laid down and I stared out at the stars from the window. I could have the whole world back me up and it would never be enough. I was alone. Alone with her.

Granny was old. I didn't wanna stress out. I didn't wanna stress anyone out. I had to deal with this.

I realised how ready I was. If I had to kill someone I could. I would. If I had to protect El. Or myself. I'd do it. And I'd never hold back.

I'd fight for us. I'd fight till I won. And I wouldn't care about the latter. As long as I set her free.
