Chapter Twenty Five
The Marauders happily went to breakfast as usual at Monday morning, but they were happier than usual, because they have finally made Arianna agree to help them
“I wonder how Riddle will help us,” said James excitedly as they walked “d’you reckon she’s good at making love potions or something?”
Sirius laughed, and Remus rolled his eyes
“She won’t use a love potion mate,” said Sirius “I’m sure she’ll do something that makes sense.”
Remus nodded in agreement
“She’s quite sensible Prongs,” said Remus as they entered the Great Hall
“But I still wonder until now though,” said James as they took their usual seats “why does Evans hate me? Why does she reject me all the time? I know we weren’t really friends and all, but I realized I she’s more than an enemy and that I like her, why can’t she see that?”
“Uh, it’s kinda hard to see Prongs because she hated you since first year because you made enemies with her best friend and you tend to irritate her,” said Sirius as he got some toast “but I’m sure she’ll come around, and with Riddle at our side, I’m sure it’ll be soon.”
James just nodded and The Marauders ate their breakfast quietly, for the first five minutes at least
“Good morning Riddle!” said Sirius standing up, as Arianna and her friends got to the Gryffindor table
“Riddle!” said James as he ate his toast, he too stood up. Arianna stared at them as if they’d gone mad; Lily and the others practically sat somewhere else and of course Arianna followed them
“Hey! Riddle!” called Sirius grabbing her arm “remember – “
Arianna glared at him
“Yes, I know” she hissed “not here.” She said and she walked off with her friends, as they sat somewhere far from them, Sirius and James then both sat down again
“What does that supposed to mean?” James mumbled as he got some toast
“I think she means she’ll help later.” Said Remus as he ate
“I can never understand how the female mind works,” said Sirius as he stared at Arianna, who was sitting at the far end of the Gryffindor table with her friends, and Frank Longbottom
“I know right,” agreed James “I still can’t believe she doesn’t like being around us, I mean people here think we’re the height of cool!”
Sirius vigorously nodded in agreement at he shoved a mouthful of bacon into his mouth, Remus just sighed and continued eating
“But I’m sure she’ll realize she’s lucky once she hangs out with us.” Said Sirius as he swallowed, James just shrugged and they continued eating up their breakfast.
Arianna, Lily, Alice and Marlene walked to the Potions classroom together dropping off Arianna, like they always did for each other
“What was with Potter and Black earlier?” Alice asked Arianna, Arianna shrugged
“Nothing,” she said “they claim that they want to be ‘friends’.” She said making air quotes on the friends part,
“They need something,” said Lily “don’t be fooled.”
Arianna smirked
“I know,” she said “that’s why I’m ignoring them, but they did me a favor the other day so I think I’m stuck.”
“What do you mean?” asked Marlene, Arianna sighed exasperatedly
“Remember I went to Hogsmeade with Remus last Saturday right?” said Arianna, the girls nodded “well they set me up, when we came to our last stop Black, Potter and Pettigrew joined in, I walked out on them and well I ran into Bellatrix Black.”
Alice gasped
“What did she do to you?” Alice asked her voice higher pitched than normal
“She tried to hex me, I couldn’t get my wand because she had a tight grip on me,” said Arianna “but before she could hex me Black and his friends came and hexed her and her friends. So now I need to help them with whatever they want because I ‘owe’ them.”
“And what exactly are they asking help for?” said Lily as they stopped in front of the Potions classroom, Arianna shrugged
“I have no idea.” Said Arianna which was a compete understatement, she knew perfectly what the Marauders wanted “Well, see you guys later at last period.” And she then entered the classroom. She looked around and tried finding a seat by a table that was almost full, but there was none. She then took a deep breath and walked up to her usual seat.
She took out her things and took in the silence as much as she could “My death is drawing nearer, I can feel it.” She told herself as she closed her bag, she then took a deep breath and closed her eyes, and she knew any minute by now the Marauders would arrive and annoy her, or in her words “annoy her to death”
“Keep calm,” she whispered to herself “they’re just annoying, little-“
“You do realize the first sign of madness is talking to yourself.” Said a voice, Arianna’s eyes snapped open and she turned to glare at the person sitting on her right
“Black.” She hissed, Sirius just smirked
“Easy there Riddle, we want to make friends with you too you know,” said James taking the seat on her left Peter like before was sitting behind them, Arianna then stopped glaring at Sirius and focused her attention up front, Slughorn wasn’t there yet but she didn’t care, she didn’t want to even look at the Marauders.
“So what are we going to do?” asked Sirius as he rocked his chair so it sat on two legs, Arianna rubbed both of her temples with her fingers
“We can’t do anything yet Black because we are in class.” She said as she stopped rubbing her temples,
“Well we can do something to stop class.” Said James, Arianna raised her eyebrows and looked at James
“And how exactly can you stop class?” she said crossing her arms, James smirked
“They’ll blow up the room,” said Remus as he read a book in a tone as if it were normal “they’ll think of something.” He then peered down from his book so Arianna can see his eyes “believe me, they always will.”
Arianna looked uncomfortably at the two boys beside her who were both smirking
“Well there’s no need for that,” she said looking away from the two boys again “after classes would be much better, I don’t like the sound of getting detention my brother was Head Boy in his year. So since I’ll be helping you after classes or during free time or whatever, there’s no use of hanging out with me.”
“But we wanna be friends.” Said Sirius as he made his chair sit on all fours again, Arianna rolled her eyes
“Number one,” said Sirius Arianna just glared at him “C’mon Riddle we wanna be friends too, we don’t just need your help you know.”
“Yeah, it would be cool to be friends.” Said James, Remus who was beside them nodded
“They’re telling the truth Arianna,” Said Remus “and we’re not as bad as you think you know.” James and Sirius nodded, Arianna looked around if she can make an escape but to her dismay all the tables were full, she can’t go anywhere now, she the groaned
“Why am I being punished like this?” she said banging her head on the table, James and Sirius grinned victoriously and high fived each other
“Hey Riddle can you teach us how to get reflexes as fast as yours? You’re pretty quick.” Said James, Arianna just ignored him and continued asking herself what she did wrong and why was she being punished like this.
