A New Beginning

Hector led me to where they were. Tobias followed close behind.

"The only way to free Uriah is to give them what they want." Hector explained

"What do they want?" I asked

"You."

I took Hector's gun. Tobias grabbed my arm.

"You can't go. I'm not going to let you." Tobias whispered

"I have to. I can't let them hurt Uriah for something I've done."

"Then I'm coming with you."

I took one last look at Hector.

"Zeke is leader until we get back."

Hector nodded then hugged me.

"Please don't die. Your the closest thing I have to a sister." Hector whispered

I slowly and gently pulled away from him. I smiled. I took a deep breath and walked over to the Erudite guards.

"What do you think you are doing in my compound?" I said harshly

"We've come to release your soldier and to see who killed Jeanine. But I'm only releasing your soldier. I don't want another war but I think Abby does."

"Abby?"

"Jeanine's daughter. Who killed Jeanine?"

"She's already dead."

"Who?"

"I told you, she's dead."

"WHAT IS HER NAME?"

"I TOLD YOU SHES DEAD!"

"Tell me or I'll kill you."

"Shoot. You said you didn't want war right? If you kill me, it'll never end."

I dropped my gun. I leaped up to the overhead bars. I pulled the gun out of my boot. I shot the guards with modified nirostim darts. I jumped down from the bars. The darts were modified to knock a person out for 5 minutes. I turned to Hector and threw him the gun back. I smiled. Tobias came over to me and helped me drag the bodies outside. We dragged them to the factionless sector. We ran back to the compound. When we reached the Pit, Christina came barreling toward me. She hugged me, almost tackling me. When I finally pulled her off of me, she grabbed my arm and pulled me to our old initiate dorm.

"What are we doing here?" I asked

"You aren't a murderer Tris!" Christina squealed

I saw Tobias on the stairs.

"What are you talking about?" I asked

"Will! He's still alive!"

"No he's not. I shot him. He's dead."

Tobias came over to me and wrapped his arms around me. Then Will came into the dorm. I covered my mouth with my hands. Tears fell down my cheeks. I uncovered my mouth.

"Please tell me I'm hallucinating." I whispered

"No. I'm as good as alive. You made a pretty deep wound though." Will said. "Don't get me wrong, it's healing but it was pretty deep."

"I need a minute." I said walking past Will, out of the dorms

I walked to the chasm and sat on the ledge. I heard footsteps behind me. I looked back. Will. He sat down next to me. Tears flowed steadily onto my cheeks.

"How are you alive?" I asked

"A few Dauntless found me and carried me to Erudite. They took care of me until I was able to take care of myself again. Then I went to Abnegation and stayed with Evelyn." Will said

"I'm sorry I just-" I paused

"I know. Christina told me everything. About the truth serum and the nightmares."

"One less person's life I'm responsible for." I whispered before laughing a little

"What are you talking about?"

"I lost my parents in the attack. My brother turned against me. We went outside the fence and he sacrificed himself because he felt guilty for betraying me." I said as the tears flowed out of my eyes

I dried my tears and smiled at Will. We stood up and walked. I went back to the dorm and he went to the cafeteria. I sat on one of the beds. Uriah came into the dorm. He sat down next to me on the bed.

"Thanks for saving me out there Tris."

"Don't mention it." I said trying my hardest to look happy

"Let's go eat. I'm starving."

"Aren't you always?"

We both laughed. We walked  to the dining hall. We got our food. We sat down at the table Tobias was sitting at. I sat in between Tobias and Uriah. Uriah leaned over to me while we were eating.

"I thought Will was dead." He whispered

"He is. I shot him." I whispered back

"No I'm serious. He's sitting by Christina."

"No he's not. He's dead. I killed him. I watched him die."

"No joke. He's sitting over there. I don't hallucinate."

I got up and walked out of the dinning hall. Tobias followed me out. When we were out of the dining hall, Tobias grabbed my arm.

"Why are you taking this so seriously?"

"It's not everyday that someone dead just shows upon front of you. Someone that you killed. That you watched die."

"You should be celebrating Tris. Not moping around."

"You don't understand."

I wriggled out of his grasp. I walked to my apartment. I grabbed my sweater. I started walking towards the entrance of the compound. Tobias grabbed my arm again.

"Are you seriously just walking out? Like a coward?" Tobias yelled

I punched him hard in the face.

"I'm quitting leadership. Zeke can have my place."

I was about to turn around when I was met by a hard punch to the nose. I covered my nose quickly. I ran out of the compound. I ran to Amity. There were Amity gathered in the dome. I ran there. A few Amity rushed over to me. I uncovers my nose to speak.

"Please help me. Please." I said

Then a man stood up and walked over to me.

"Beatrice?" He said

I flinched. Robert hugged me.

"Joanna! She needs medical attention!"

"Go ahead! She can stay!"

Robert led me to the infirmary. He got bandages and a tube of numbing cream.

"Okay, your nose is broken and I need to numb it so I can set it back to how it's supposed to be. Who did this to you Beatrice?"

"Four." I whispered

"You mean, Four as in, new leader of Dauntless?"

"Yeah. He was also my boyfriend."

"I can believe he did this to you. He seemed to was to protect you not hurt you."

"That's what I thought. Obviously I thought wrong."
