A New Beginning

Tobias and I opened the cases of guns.

"It's like capture the flag. Two teams, Tris and I are captains."

I picked up a dart gun.

"Weapon of choice. Nurostim darts. Simulates the pain of a real gunshot wound but only lasts a couple of minutes." I said

"You pick first." Tobias said

"Sara." I said

After the teams were chosen we handed out suit lights and guns. My team had had 7 and Tobias had 7. One of the initiates from the dauntless borns got pushed over the chasm. I took the orange flag and Tobias took the green one. My team jumped off first. We ran to the faris wheel. I balled up the flag in my fist so the light wouldn't show.

"Lights off." I said

Everyone turned their lights off.

"What's the strategy?" Sara asked

"We'll use the strategy I used to win my game. We split into two groups. One group will defend and one will engage. Sara, Mark and I will engage. The rest are staying to guard the flag. We just have to spot their flag first." I handed the flag to Jack. "Tie the flag to the pole behind you and keep it low so they can't see it. Sara, Mark, I'll be going up the faris wheel I need you to guard."

I went up to the top of the faris wheel. I saw their flag on the roof of a building. Guards surrounded the building. I slid down to the ground. I ran over to rest of the team and grabbed a few more people for attack.

"Flag is at the top of the far building. I'll engage Four with Sara and Mark, the rest of you, start shooting to clear it up for us." I said

We snuck over to the far side where the flag was. Mark stayed with the defense group while Sara and I went to go engage. I shot a few people. I cleared for Sara to go up to the top of the building and get it. I looked for Four I saw him at the base of the building. I shot at him. It missed and he started looking around. I snuck to a closet position on the right. I shot him in the leg. He went down. I ran over and grabbed his gun and left him with mine. I went to the building. Sara hadn't gotten the flag yet. I went to the top and saw Sara fighting off some people.

"Get it Tris!" Sara yelled

I ran over and grabbed the green flag. My team started shouting and screaming. I jumped off the building and Sara jumped after me. I gave her the flag. She smiled at me. Tobias came over to me.

"How'd you do it? We put it low enough." Tobias asked

"My climbing skills aren't that rusty."

"You climbed the faris wheel again without falling?"

"Yeah it's not that hard."

Then I felt a sharp pain in my chest. I screamed and fell down. I looked at my chest and saw a nurostim dart in my chest. Tobias kneeled next to me. I gritted my teeth.

"Who shot?" Tobias yelled

No one answered.

"WHO SHOT AFTER THE FLAG HAD BEEN TAKEN?" Tobias yelled

Jack came forward.

"You shot after the flag was taken and you shot your own teammate? I don't want to see you when I wake up tomorrow." Tobias hissed

I ripped the dart out. There was a fair amount of blood on it. Tobias helped me up.

"You okay?" He asked

"Yeah." I said

We headed back to the faris wheel side of the field. We stopped at the faris wheel to collect guns. I handed my case to Tobias. I went with the Dauntless borns to the tower. We met Zeke, Will, Christina and Uriah up there. Christina looked at me excitedly.

"I'm going before all the pansycakes." I said kinda loud so the initiates could hear

"I'm not a pansycake okay?" Derek said

"The rankings tell me different." I said

I slid into the harness. Zeke and Uriah strapped me in.

"You ready?" Zeke yelled

"I WAS BORN READY!" I yelled back

Zeke and Uriah pulled the harness back and released it, sending me flying through the air. I loved the thrill of zip lining. When I got to the bottom, I jumped down onto the arms and waited for the rest of the initiates. When everyone had gone down, we headed back to dauntless. I jumped onto the train last so I could jump off first. The train arrived at dauntless and everyone piled out. I walked around to find Tobias. I walked into the training room and saw Jack grabbing a nurostim gun. He saw me and shot. He hit my arm. I ran towards him. Another shot. My leg. I knocked him out. I put the nurostim guns in a secure weapons vault and went back to him. He shot me in the back and neck. His last dart went into my chest. He threw the gun and ran. I collapsed to the ground. I ripped them out of my arm and leg. I laid on my side not wanting to. Push the darts any further in. I felt dizzy. Everything started spinning. Tobias came over to me. My eyes got heavier by the minute. He ripped the one out of my back and chest. He slowly eased out the one on my neck. I laid down on my back. Tobias helped me up. I started to regain my senses.

"Who did this?" Tobias asked

"Jack." I said

I felt my eyes get heavy again. I became limp and blacked out.
