A New Beginning

I woke in the infirmary. I heard the heart monitor going off. The nurse turned it off. I felt stronger then before. I had a tube in my mouth. I couldn't feel my face. The nurse pulled the tube out of my mouth. Once it was out, I looked around for Tobias. He was sitting next to me. He smiled at me.

"Hey." I whispered

"Hey." I whispered back

"How you feeling?" Tobias asked

"Better. A lot better." I said

"Good. Do you mind if Uriah and Zeke come in? They've been freaking out since you were brought here." Tobias said

"Sure. Everyone can come in, I just want to ask you something first." I said

"What is it?"

"Are we together again?"

"About that, I wanted to apologize for everything I said. I just don't want you to blame yourself for everything that happens. Alright?"

Tobias kissed my forehead before going out to the waiting room. He came back in with everyone. He took his place back on my right side. He raised the bed a little bit and then sat on the right side of the bed. Uriah sat on my left side.

"How are you feeling Tris?" Zeke asked

"Better." I said

"Good." Uriah said

"Chris has been freaking out all night." Will said

I noticed Christina's eyes were puffy and red. I smiled at her and she half smiled back. She sat at the foot of my bed.

"Are you and Four back together?" Will asked

I looked at Tobias.

"Yeah we are." I said as I smiled

"What did you do with Peter Zeke?" Tobias asked

"Put him in a dauntless cell." Zeke said

I started to hear a ringing in my ears but I ignored it. The nurse let me go home. Tobias helped me off the bed. We all walked to Tobias' apartment. The ringing in my ears got louder and higher pitched. I winced.

"You okay Tris?" Hector asked

I couldn't hear anything but the ringing. I covered my ears and brought my knees to my chest. It hurt like hell. A liquid started running down my face. I pulled my hands away from my ears. My hands were covered in blood. Zeke said something to Tobias. The ringing died down.

"Where is Peter's cell?" I asked harshly

Zeke led me to his cell. Peter came over to the bars. I grabbed his collar through the bars.

"What did you do to me?" I yelled

Peter didn't respond.

"Open the door." I said

Zeke opened the cell door and closed it behind me. I reached through the bar. Zeke put a gun in my hand. I pointed the gun at Peter's arm. I pulled trigger. He cried out.

"I'm gonna ask again. What did you do to me?" I hissed

"Jack is weakening you. It's all part of the plan to take you down." Peter said, holding his arm

"How do I stop it?" I asked

"You don't." Peter said

I walked out of the cell, handing Zeke his gun back. I started walking around the halls. Tobias grabbed my arm and turned me around.

"How am I supposed to stop this?" I said, tears forming in my eyes. "I can't leave you or Uriah or any of them. Especially you."

"Tris, we are gonna find a way to stop this. I'm not gonna let you die." Tobias said. "Come here."

Tobias wrapped his arms around me. Tears slipped down my cheeks.

"I can't leave you." I whispered

"I'm not gonna let that happen." Tobias whispered

We walked back to Peter's cell where Zeke and Uriah were beating him up. When they saw me, the came out of the cell and locked the door behind them.

"You okay Tris?" Uriah asked

"Yeah. I'm fine." I said

I looked at Tobias then back at Zeke.

"We were thinking about going to get tattoos. We will see you guys later." I said

I led Tobias outside the compound.

"We aren't getting tattoos are we?" Tobias said

"No. I'm going to figure out how to turn off th-"

I was cut off my the high pitched ringing. I fell to the ground. Tobias rushed over to help me. Then the ringing stopped. I regained my strength. We walked back into Dauntless.

"Peter said these attacks won't stop until I'm dead. The only way to stop it is-"

"I'm not letting you kill yourself Tris."

"To inject me with a high dose of a paralytic."

"When are you planning on doing this?"

"As soon as possible."

We walked towards the infirmary. Zeke, Uriah, Will and Christina came running up to us.

"You said you were getting tattoos." Zeke said

"I'm sorry I lied to you but I have to do this." I said

"Do what? You aren't going to kill yourself are you?" Zeke hissed

"I have to put myself in a coma." I said

"What?" Christina yelled

"It's the only way to stop this. You have to trust me." I said

"Four?" Zeke asked

"We have to trust her. I know none of us agree with this but unless you want her to die, you'll trust her." Tobias said

The ringing started again. I leaned up against the wall and gritted my teeth. Tobias ran over to me and held me. The ringing stopped then quickly started again. Then it stopped. I collapsed to the floor. Tobias knelt over me.

"We need to do this now." Tobias said sternly

He helped me up. I regained my strength and we walked to the infirmary. Jen, my nurse, helped me onto a bed.

"We need you to do something very important. You need to do it now." Tobias said

"Okay. Everyone go out to the waiting room. Four you can stay." Jen said

After everyone left, I started talking.

"I need you to put me in a coma and make it seem like I'm dead. Not just the outside but inside too." I said

Jen nodded. She got a syringe and positioned it over my neck. I held Tobias' hand. She injected me. I looked straight at Tobias.

"I love you." I whispered before the serum kicked in

The heart monitor stopped and my eyes closed.
