NOTE: Two more chapters to go
It has now officially been a month since I've been working for Mr Peace. It's not been the best time of my life but I have learnt a lot of things I guess. I made a friend and I learnt how to let people treat me like shit...you don't get to feel that every single day.
It has also been a week since I confronted Mr Peace. I tried my best to avoid him but as always he couldn't be bothered. I told my parents about me and Gerry and let's say I preferred mum's reaction over dads.
Mum said I am a grown adult and whatever decision I take in life will always be the right one. Dad said he didn't like my decision because he found it absolutely pointless to break up with him considering we dated for years.
Dad is really confusing. One minute he doesn't like Gerry, then he hates him and now he didn't want the both of us to break up. It's either he loves him or he hates him...fathers these days! Whatever dad tells me to do can't always be right and he can't expect to control my life forever.
He needs to realise that I'm not a kid anymore; I'm an adult who has free will. I also made a decision, I'm going to Los Angeles whether dad likes it or not. For the past week Gerry has been an amazing support.
Together we went through finding apartments which could fit my wages. I called George back up and told him that I'm taking the job. He was really happy and said to inform him one day before coming down.
As today is Saturday, it is my day off and I'm currently at mums and dads. I told them that it's been a while since we last had dinner as a family and mum thought it was a fantastic idea. We were all seated down at the table eating and talking.
I might as well break the news to the both of them about me going to Los Angeles. I know that this isn't going to end well but it's what's best for me.
"Mum, dad?" They both look at me while the air is filled with silence. "There was a reason I wanted to come down for dinner today" I say carrying on. "I...I'm moving to Los Angeles" I say softly.
Mum and dad stare at me with a blank face not uttering a word. This is going to end really really bad.
"Why?" Dad asks breaking the silence.
I focus my full attention on him and play with my fork and knife.
"I got a job in an art museum" I confess.
Suddenly a glass is thrown across the kitchen making me jump in fear and mum to let out a loud gasp. My heartbeat quickens as I take in dad's facial expression. His face is pure red in anger and I don't think I've ever seen him so angry.
"Why would you do that? You have the best job in the world!" He says with venom in his voice.
Getting up from my chair I just look at dad.
"How is forcing myself to do something the best job in the world dad?" I ask in confusion and hurt. I knew dad wouldn't understand, he never has and I don't think he ever will. "I've already found an apartment and everything. I'm leaving next week and I'm going to resign tomorrow" I say.
Dad gets up from his own chair and points an accusing finger in my face.
"You are no daughter of mine anymore. I gave you a fair warning before Sofie and now I mean it" He says without any sympathy towards me.
"If my own father can't see what my happiness is...then he truly is a blind man" I feel a tear slip out of my eye down my cheek. I intended to storm out of the house but I'm frozen on my feet. I might as well ask dad the question that has been burning my mind for some weeks. "What did Mr Peace say to you at your function?" I ask dad.
Dad scoffs and rolls his eyes at me. I shouldn't even be calling him dad anymore considering he doesn't see me as his daughter.
"He said and I quote 'Your daughter is the most ignorant, disrespectful and lazy person I have ever come across...but she is the best personal assistant I have ever had'" Mr Peace said that about me?
"I love you mum" I say looking over at her.
Turning around I quickly leave the house with one person on my mind....Charley Peace
