Sadie's POV

With only five minutes into the game our football team had already scored a touchdown and it was looking like another was quickly approaching.

"This is going to be an easy win!" Holly yelled, holding up another sign she had made, not for anyone particular just for the whole team this time. The ball was snapped again, a long throw to Kent and the buzzers sounded. Another touchdown! We all cheered so loud I'm sure our voices would be gone tomorrow.

I watched as Kent jogged back towards the sidelines, he tore off his helmet and pointed directly at me with a smile so wide I couldn't help but smile as well. Josie jabbed me in the side almost hard enough for me to fall off the bleachers we were standing on.

"Did you see that? That was so for you!" Josie screamed in my ear over the cheering and I couldn't stop laughing. Holly and Jackie had seen it too, actually nearly the whole crowd had. Even once the cheering had died down I still couldn't stop smiling, it didn't help that Jackie, Josie and Holly continued to swoon over what happened.

"Please tell me what you did to get Kent, the hottest hottie in school, to fall for you!" Ryan, who was standing a row in front of us girls, had turned to grab both my hands.

"I-I don't know, really," I replied honestly. Maybe a lot of aimless flirting, awkward attempts to be attractive and putting up curtains that were way to short to try and create 'space' between the two of you?

"I would kill if Charlie would do that for me," Ryan crossed his hands over his heart and sighed dramatically, making us girls laugh.

"As if, Charlie is mine," Holly playfully teased Ryan who rolled his eyes. A couple of the girls around started swooning over Charlie, Kent and a few other players on the team. I was thankful the attention was off of me.

"Incoming," Jackie whispered, nudging my arm and nodding her head towards the front of the bleachers. Missy and three of her henchmen were strutting towards the bleachers, snacks and drinks in one hand, phones glued to the other. Jackie, Holly and I watched as Missy began climbing the stairs towards where our group was sitting. Josie was too busy arguing with one of the other girls, something about football I think.

"Hey guys," Missy greeted, her voice a whole octave higher than normal and a fake smile plastered on her face. A few of the others around greeted Missy back, including Ryan who seemed to get along with anyone.

There weren't any cheerleaders cheering for this game since the other team doesn't have a cheer squad of their own, so Missy got to take a break from royalty and sit with us commoners.

Neither Jackie, Josie, Holly or I said a word while Missy took a seat with her friends two rows ahead. Thankfully no drama went down, Missy didn't try to start anything and in the end the boys ended up winning again! Kent made the winning touchdown, to which he once again pointed at me, earning me a glare from Missy but nothing more.

"Let's get out of here," Josie said as soon as the boys were off the field. We all followed Josie to her car and piled in, Ryan, Jackie and Holly in the back seat and I got the passenger seat.

"Kent so wants you," Ryan whispered into my ear, leaning forward from his middle seat in the back. The girls all giggled together and I turned around to stick my tongue out at Ryan.

"I bet he'll ask you to the dance!" Jackie said and the girls, plus Ryan, all began talking about the dance at once. Josie went on about how she wanted one of the senior boys in her class to ask her and Ryan continued to whine about Charlie's sexual orientation.

"I swear, under all that typical macho man act, he's a total cuddle bear. I'll get him to see it some day," Ryan hit Jackie on the arm when she denied it but playfully.

"Maybe Charlie will ask you," I suggested to Ryan who's face lit up but he rolled his eyes, for the millionth time this evening.

"Girl, you have both of those boys wrapped around your little fingers," Jackie, Josie and Holly all agreed and I couldn't help but feel off. Did people think I was playing with Charlie and Kent? That I was just trying to get both of their attention?

"I wish I had two boys fighting over me!" Holly whined, laughing along with the rest of us and turning up the music on the radio.

The topic of the Homecoming dance coming up was the favorite choice on the way back to school. I had never been to a school dance before, since my old school didn't have any dances other than Prom at the end of the year. Even though I didn't want to get my hopes up, I couldn't help but fantasize Kent asking me in an adorable way.

"Remember last year when Charlie asked Missy to Homecoming right after she and Kent broke up for, like, the fifth time?" Ryan suddenly blurted out. "Still can't believe he turned me down just to ask her," Everyone pretended not to hear the last mumblings of Ryan's sentence.

"Then Kent went and turned Charlie into a punching bag for 30 minutes straight!" Josie yelled, imitating Kent's punches into the air.

"It was more like 3 minutes Jos," Holly said, rolling her eyes while Josie glared. "plus Kent only hit Charlie once before Mr. Finn broke it up,"

This all was news to me and it honestly surprised me. So Charlie and Kent had already fought over a girl. Of course it had to be Missy.

"He only went with her to make Kent jealous," Ryan quickly added, for some reason reaching over and placing his hand on my arm. I shouldn't care, none of that mattered since it was in the past. Still . . . I had a sour taste in my mouth and I wasn't hungry anymore.

"Then Missy went all psycho because not even going to Homecoming with her ex's best friend made Kent want to get back together with her," Jackie giggled along with Holly. All this talk about Missy and Kent made me annoyed, all I wanted was to get out of this car and back to my dorm. Jackie leaned towards me to whisper.

"Kent's moved on from Missy, a long time ago, okay? You have nothing to worry about," She smiled at me and I smiled back but those weren't the words I wanted to hear. All I wanted to hear was someone announce we were back at the dorms already. The conversation carried on, talking about who should ask who to the dance, where they're going to shop for their dresses and what kind of music they think would be played. Finally, after what felt like 4 hours, we made it back to the dorms.

"Here's your stop you two," Holly announced, pulling up in front of my dorm.

"Thanks, see you guys later!" Ryan and I waved to the girls while they pulled away.

"Hey cutie!" Someone called out from behind me. I turned around as Kent jogged up the stairs to open the door for me. Ryan didn't even bother saying anything, he shot me a flirty look before hurrying inside the dorm.

"You're all sweaty," I mentioned, walking into the dorm with Kent right on my heels. I wish I could physically slap myself. 'You're all sweaty'? Really, Sadie? That's all you could come up with? Just what every guy wants to hear.

"Yeah, I definitely need a shower," Kent chuckled and led the way towards the elevator.

"You did great at the game," Why is it that whenever Kent was around I suddenly couldn't think of anything to say? I hate getting nervous around him.

"We crushed 'em," Kent said nonchalantly, letting me walk into the elevator ahead of him. That cocky, signature grin slowly formed on Kent's lips while he leaned against the back of the elevator. "You're going to the next game, aren't you?"

Before I could answer Kent leaned over, nudging my arm and winking down at me. "You're kind of my good luck charm you know,"

My cheeks immediately began heating up and I knew I looked like a strawberry.

"Y-yeah, I was planning on it," I quickly stuttered out, hoping Kent didn't think I was as dumb as I knew I was. I wanted to say something about being his good luck charm, but nothing came to my mind! I just stood next to a smiling Kent who was waiting for a reply like some idiot!

"You're cute," The doors to the elevators opened as Kent spoke and he darted into the hallway. "I'll see you after I don't stink anymore, alright?"

He disappeared into the bathrooms before I even stepped out from the elevator.
