In third year James decided that the way to win Lily's heart was through dance seeing as he had witnessed her being happy while dancing on so many occasions, the other three boys decided to convince him that girls are actually really attracted to guys that dance ballet*, especially in the Muggle world (information courtesy of Peter and Remus) so James took up ballet and caught on surprisingly fast, he was a natural.
By the end of third year James was dancing immaculately en pointe with the technique of someone with years of training under their belt.
It's safe to say that this was by far James' funniest attempts at getting a date in Lily's books and James refused to ever dance in a circumstance that was not his wedding with Lily or in the dorm room again.
*disclaimer: ballet dancers are actually the epitome of my soul rn so 300% love for anyone who can dance.
