Henrietta was astonished thinking how Michael left her mom with that villein. Michael was driving the car with high speed. He tried as much as possible to get away from the place.

"Michael, I beg you, please! Please take me to mom!" Henrietta pleaded.

"I know how you're feeling. But, I can't take you there. The person may take you as hostage. So, we need to get out." Michael said.

"You aren't getting it. What about mom?" She shouted.

"I'm sorry, but now we have nothing to do but leave her there."

"Please Michael, please! Don't do this. Okay if we feel unsecured, stop the car. I'll get down." Said she and tried to unlock the door.

Michael soon rechecked the door if it was locked and said, "Stop being a kiddo. Sit calm."

"How can I? And Michael! Please don't be so rude."

"I ain't being rude." Michael increased the speed.

Silvia interrupted, "Michael, I think you should turn on the radio. She'll get distracted."

"You're right" nodded Michael turning on the radio.

After few music and pop songs, breaking news started. They were not giving attention much, they were fragile. But the news came which left them in awe. A lady read on the radio station, "Firing on motorway on the way to Southend Beach. Lady injured severely and a man is arrested and gained casualties by the police."

Michael turned it off all on a sudden. Silvia was feeling tensed. She looked at Henrietta. Henrietta sat like a mannequin. She was frozen. Tears started rolling down her rosy cheeks.

"Henrietta, its alright. It maybe some else news, not what you're thinking. We'll reach the city soon. So your mom will." Silvia tried to console her.

"Mom!" Henrietta cried out. Silvia pulled her closer and embraced her tightly. She ran her fingers through her hair. She wiped down Henrietta's weep.

They were very close to the city when Michael's phone rang.

"Good evening, Michael Sherwood here."

They couldn't hear what was said from the other side. Michael nodded and declined the phone.

"Who was it?" Asked Silvia.

"You'll know very soon." Michael replied.

"But where are we exactly going now?"

"You'll know that soon too."

Michael drove the car into the city and directly came near the central hospital. He parked his car in front. Two police cars were also kept there.

"Girls, get down." Michael said.

Henrietta slept on Silvia's lap. She tried to wake her up slowly, "Henrietta, wake up." Henrietta opened her eyes and followed Silvia as she got down. Michael smiled and held her hands. Those were cold.

They walked into the hospital. Only Michael knew why they were here. Both girls just followed her. Few hours ago, they were here with Mrs. Meredith and now with Henrietta. Situation was the same.

He walked to the reception table and talked to the beautiful lady who was in charge, "May I know where Mrs. Meredith is?"

The lady nodded and checked something, "Sure sir. She is in room no 19."

"Thanks, can we meet her now?"

"Sir, just give me a second." The lady said as she dialed someone, whispered something and put down the phone.

"Though its a police case, but certainly you can meet her now if you were the ones who are permitted. May I know your name sir?"

"Michael Sherwood."

The lady smiled again and consented him.

Michael came to Silvia and Henrietta who were sitting in the lobby. Michael stopped seeing something. Henrietta was in the same chair which Mrs. Meredith sat on just a few hours back. He sighed.

"Henrietta." He called her putting his hands on her shoulder.

She looked up though she couldn't see with her wet eyes.

"Henrietta, you need to be strong. I'm going to say something unpleasant."

She stared at him with eagerness and extreme blankness.

"Henrietta. Mrs. Meredith has been shot." Michael let it out.

Henrietta's world shattered with those words, she saw nothing but darkness in front of her eyes. She felt numb. It was like, nothing mattered to her now, everything was meaningless.

"Come let's meet her."
***
Henrietta sat besides her mom. She was looking at her mom with only love, nothing else. Mrs. Meredith was looking lifeless. Several tubes were out of her nasal passage, her head was covered with bandaid. She was shot in the head from very near. Soon, her lips moved as she tried to say something.

Michael was standing near the bed. He said, "Henrietta, she's trying to say something. Go closer."

Henrietta went closer to her and let mom pronounce her final words.

"Roger is sorry. You'll go to him when I leave." She uttered.

"What mom?" Henrietta couldn't understand.

That very moment, machines started beeping, "Peep! Peep! Peep!" Those were indicating ominous. Michael stood straight and looked at the ECG monitor, Silvia was staring at that too.

The curved lines that showed the heart beats of Mrs. Meredith was not curved then. It has laid down.

Flat line.
