Amelia Preston

My step mother Adelina and I were currently having lunch together outside on the porch near the pool.

I haven't really been able to get the chance to sit down and have a one on one conversation with stepmother in a while due to all the things I needed to handle.

Me and Adelina were pretty close. I actually never had a problem with her but its just her daughter Katie I'm not very fond of.

"How's everything coming a long my dear?" She stopped eating her lunch and gave me her attention.

"It's fine honestly." I shrugged knowing that it's improper to speak my honest opinion about all the crap I go through on a daily basis.

Adelina checked the surroundings before leaning in closer towards me. "Since nobody is around you can be honest and say how you really feel about the training. Honestly when I went through the training I hated it at times but I wasn't and still am not allowed to speak up about it." She whispered.

"Really? I thought you loved it." I said very sarcastic.

"Eh. I only said so your father won't throw a huge fit." Adelina grumbled under her breath.

"I wonder who created that stupid rule. You should be able to have freedom of speech." Dominic and Katie were always allowed to speak their minds but when it came to me it was a definite no.

"Your father should change it honestly, I tried talking to him about it but whenever I do he says it's not my place as queen to make and decide the rules." Adelina rolled her eyes and picked up a magazine on the table.

I took a sip of lemonade and sighed. "Well at least you tried."

She faintly gave me a smile and stroked my soft curls. "Anyway I saw your interview yesterday."

"You did?" I asked rather shocking.

"I love seeing you on interviews. You do such an amazing job but something you've said yesterday caught my attention."

"What was it?" I scrunched my face in confusion.

"When the interviewer asked 'Do you like someone else?' and you responded with 'No comment'." Adelina raised an brow at me as she folded her arms across her chest.

I bit my lip and looked down at my lap. "I don't like anyone else. I swear. I just did it for publicity.." I nervously responded.

"Your father would of been very disappointed at you if you liked someone else other than Affonso. He's such a great young man."

If she only knew that I actually did like someone else which is Jay.

"Honestly I'm not trying to be forced into marriage and forced to fall in love with someone in less then a year. I want to explore my options."

"Honey I would love you to actually find someone that you actually love but it's apart of the law that the King must choose your husband. My parents forced me to marry your father. At first I couldn't stand your father but now I'm madly in love with him."

"Everyone is different. What about if I only see Affonso as a friend?"

"You will still have to marry him." She frowned. "I wish you could marry someone of your choice but it's not in neither of our control."

I just shook my head is disappointment.

"But I just say you should just see where things go with him first and if you feel like you really don't like him try to come to a common ground with your father even though he may be stubborn as usual."
