[ tack room @ the stables ]
When I was halfway through completing my bareback competition I saw Haden signalling me over, I walked past him, "It's Shea she got hurt in Cross Country!" He whisper yells and my eyes widen, oh god. I quickly turned around, goign tot he judges, telling them I was dropping out.
I quickly headed out of the arena, Cai moving into a fast canter aspeople moved out of our way. Once I got to the front I dismounted, tripping over my own feet as I unclipped my helemet, leaving Cai standing alone.
Haden followed not to far behind me and I frantically looked for Shea. I rushed over to the ambulance that a few people were gathered around, "Shea!" I say, worry etching its way onto my face.
"Go in the ambulance with her you two." Mr. Lee signalled to Haden and I to get in and we both did, sitting next to each other.
She was out cold, I waited until the doors closed before I turned to Haden, "What happened?!" I say in an angry tone and he looks at me, wide eyed and his mouth ajar.
"Shea was doing the cross country course and they were doing okay, but she was riding Buttercup, she already had two refusals and Buttercup sent her flying on her third go at the jump, she whacked her head across the jump and fell into the water on the other side, then Buttercup went flying over and landed on top of her." He says in one breath, looking at me for some sort of reaction.
I clenched my fists. That darn pony was a menace and I didn't like it one bit, I wonder why they still kept Buttercup as a school horse as she was just lazy and stubborn.
"Agh, That damn pony!" I say, looking over to Shea who stirred slightly.
As we made our way to the hospital Shea continued to fall in and out of conciousness, making Haden and I worried.
Soon we found ourselves rushing down the isle with Shea before we were stopped, "You two need to stay here, family only." He says and I narrow my eyes while Haden backs off with a sigh, "She ic my best friend, let me in right now I'm practically her family." I whisper yell firmly, in a low toned voice which made me sound even more scary.
The guy shook his head, brushing my angered tone off like it was nothing, "Sorry miss, go take a seat."
I turned on my heel, growling beneath my breath and storming off to Haden who was sitting down.
He stood up, placing his hands on my shoulders, "Woah, Sage calm down, we'll see her soon and I'm sure she'll be fine." He gives a sad smile, pulling me down into the chair next to him as he sat.
"Fine." I huffed.
I watched as two parents rushed in frnatically looking around, "Where is my daughter!" The lady yelled, tears rushing down her cheeks like waterfalls to match mine.
Her husband tried claming her down as a nurse began to walk them down to sit next to us, the lady turned to me as they sat, "Are you Sage, the one that Shea's been telling me all about?" She questioned and I nodded, "Is she alright?" I shrugged, this is what happened whenever I got hurt.
I'd switch off my emotions so I couldn't feel the pain or agony that I should, I become what some would call cold-hearted but its a way of surviving.
"Family can come in." I stand up to protest before Shea's mother cuts the man off, "These are Shea's cousins so they're coming in with us." She lies and the man nods reluctantly. I silently thank her ebfore rushing into the room to see an awake Shea, "Are you okay?!" I yell, earning some looks as I rush over to her, embracing her in a hug.
