"Wake up Sage! We've got cross country try outs!" I groan into my pillow as I hear Shea and Haden's voices ring through the air. I look over to Ashley's bed to see she didn't bother to wake me up and just left. She was such a nice room mate, so dependent.

"I'm up, I'm up now get out." I murmur and they both chuckle, filing out of my room. I jump groggily out of my bed, not bothering to take a shower once I realized the time, I only had twenty minutes. I groan, shoving on my beige breeches and black canterbury crest polo shirt.

I scuttle around my room, rummaging through some piled of laundry to find my boots. Once finding them and my vest I slip them on, exiting my room with a helmet in hand.

"Let's go we're gonna be late." I say, beginning to wake up.

"Fine fine!" Shea says and we all begin to run toward the stables. All of us separated once we reached the stables and I ran toward Cai's stall. He was really good at cross country, fast too. I grab his black halter from the side of his stall, unlatching his stall and going in.

Cai perked up, "Hey baby boy, cross country time." I smile, he suddenly perks up at the words cross country and I slip his halter over his head, clipping on the lead rope with out any trouble - for once.

I lead him to the tie ups, tying him up then rushing to grab my tack.

I began tacking him up, before Shea pointed out I had grabbed my hackamore by accident. I groan, grabbing it and running back to the tack room.

I grab my d-ring bridle and I rushed to Cai who snorted, pawing at the ground impatiently.

"Oh calm down Cai, We'll get there on time." I murmur, slipping on my helmet after putting on his bridle in a rushed manner. I check over his tack before leading cai out and mounting up. He bounces into an energetic walk and I half halt him, "Woah, hold your horses there Cai." I say, leaning down to pat his neck.

He calms down, halting as we wait for Shea and Haden.

"Yo hurry up guys we've got five minutes to get to the cross country course!" I yell down the isle and Shea runs down the isle, General trotting behind her. I was glad that General was fine and Shea too. Haden followed not to far behind but he was riding a different horse, "Which horse are you riding?" I question as he mounts up and all of begin trotting to the cross country course.

"I'm riding Beau," he explains with a frown, before I could ask about his horse he butted in, "she needs to be reshoed."

I nod in understanding, it's happened to the best of us. Once we reach the cross country course I saw Ashley doing the course and I frown. Not to self, don't wake her up the next time she's gonna be late for class.

"Line up, you're late." Mr. Lee says sternly, pointing to the line. Shea and Haden walk to the end of the line and I go and stand inbetween Jax and Shane.

Jax offers a smile and I give him one back, chewing on my lower lip.

"Sage and Caitation you're up please." Mr Lee says and I nod, beginning at a slow gallop and doing the course which I had went over heaps of times. Cai cleared every jump without room to spare, landing perfectly and responding to my cues. We did a lead change as we headed for the water jump, I was expecting a refusal from Cai, but I went along with it. We cleared the jump and Cai ran through the water hesitantly.

We finished up and Mr Lee looked impressed with the progress I had made with Cai, "That was a very good round Sage, I see that trip to the race course really brought you two together." he smiled and I gave him a toothy smile. I walked back to my spot and everyone else gave a small clap before doing their rounds.

Jax had a refusal on the water jump, that seemed to be the issue with a lot of people. Shea made it through with a clear round, for being out of the saddle for a week she sure did pick it up quickly again. Haden had two refusals with Beau, but I'm sure he'd get another chance to try out or he'd get on because everyone knew he was great at Cross country.

"Thank you for participating in the try outs, now if you could go to the arena Miss Barbs would like to tell you some very exciting news, the results will be posted tomorrow in the stables." We all begin to head to the arena, chattering amongst ourselves.

I couldn't wait for the results, I really hoped that I'd get on the team as Cross Country was by far my favorite event.
