Dependence

~ A Hunger Games Poem ~

Twenty four teenagers, are stolen from home,

But for the first time ever, they will not fight alone.

They will be coupled together, and will fight in pairs,

And for the two that win, the glory will all be theirs.

Each tribute will be connected, by a titanium collar,

Invented by the best among our Capitol scholars.

These collars will have the power to end their lives,

Which our tributes will found out about, the ones that don’t survive.

The arena will be completely original, something never seen before,

And promises to be bloody, full of action, death and gore!

An abandoned old island, surrounded by sea,

The tributes will fight, just two will walk free.

The Victors will be bathed in riches beyond their wildest dreams,

Money, fame and fortune await the winning tribute team.

But victory does not come so easily, and what’s certain is death,

To avoid this one must be ruthless, and prepared to fight to their final breath.

Their families are forced to watch, as it is televised throughout the country live,

They can only hope that somehow, their loved one will survive.

But will ruthless careers, who join the Games for the fun,

They make their way to the top, picking off the others one by one.

The Games were invented, to teach the rebels not to defy,

And one hundred and twenty five years later, teenagers continue to die.

Like so many other years, it is said with a grin,

Now ladies and gentlemen, let the Annual Hunger Games begin!
