*Ding,Ding*

"Oh shoot" I cursed looking down at my pager as it broke the silence between Arizona and I "I'm sorry Dr Robbins, I gotta go" I apologized as I stood up to leave and I shot her a sympathetic smile

"Hey" she hoarsely whispered as she grabbed my hand, not letting me leave

I stopped dead as I felt the warm sensation of her hand in mine. I turned slowly to face her, unsure of what she was going to say. But I stood there and I didn't dare let go.

She closed her eyes and took a deep breath in, slowly collecting her thoughts and settling herself after her crying episode.

"Thanks" she whispered with a slight smile

I simply nodded and gave her hand a small squeeze before letting go and swiftly leaving the room.

That was 3 weeks ago. I haven't seen or heard from Arizona since.

"Hey Alex, what's going on with Arizona?" I asked one evening as Alex and I sat down to our favorite Chinese take out.

"She took a week out for the end of the court case, then 2 weeks ago Torres left for New York with Sophia. It hasn't been easy for her. I guess she's just not ready to come back just yet." Alex said as he tried to scoff his food at the same time

"Maybe you should go see her." I suggested before taking a bite of my chicken

"I think she just wants some space" Alex replied uninterested

"No one should go through that alone Alex. You're all she has, I'm sure it would do her some good to see you and take her mind off things. We should invite her to dinner some night!" I said enthusiastically

Alex gave a small laugh as he shoved another fork full of noodles into his mouth.

"What?" I smiled back

"You're like some fixing fairy" he laughed "you're perfect" he smiled as he stared directly into my eyes

I blushed as I dropped my eyes down to my plate, finding his stare intimidating.

"I just want to know she's ok" I mumbled while grinning from ear to ear

Alex stood up and brought his plate to the sink then made his way towards me. Placing his arms around my shoulders, pressing his head against the side of mine.

"You care too much babe" he whispered as he placed a soft kiss on my cheek

"She's our friend Alex, of course I care. And you should care too, she certainly cared for you when you had stuff going on" I became defensive

"I know, I know" he said as he took a step back from me, giving me room to stand up and clear the table "I mean you can kinda understand why she doesn't want to come back to work. She works with frickin' kids all day long, it's gonna break her heart" He pointed out as I left my plate in the sink and we both took a seat on the sofa

"I guess your right" I agreed as I flicked through the channels on the TV

"There super cute kids though" he laughed to himself "I think they'd cheer her up"

"Then go tell her that! Tell her they need her" I stated, still focusing my attention the TV

"Would you ever consider kids?" Alex mumbled, almost inaudibly

But I could hear just enough to freeze my entire body

"Uh, I, maybe. I guess. But not for years" I stuttered a reply

Alex simply nodded and playfully grabbed the remote from me. What the hell! He can't just drop a bombshell like that and just act like it didn't happen! Kids? Like seriously? We're just gone 2 months together. I'm still an intern! I decided to brush it off, but I knew it would play in the back of my mind.

"Hey Quinn, do you want to scrub in on my cardiomyopathy case this evening?" Dr Pierce asked as I left the intern locker room

I was coming back after a full weekend off! My first full weekend since I started the program 6 months ago. It was the first time in a long time I haven't felt tired and I was dying for a big case to throw myself into.

"Sure, thanks Dr Pierce! I just need to finish 2 of your post ops and then I can prep your patient for surgery." I smiled enthusiastically

"Awesome. Dr Smith is on this one with you" She smiled as she turned and walked away

Maggie was one of my favorite Attendings. She was always super sweet and smiley.

I took the elevator up to the patient's floor and met Dr Smith at the nurses station picking up her tablet.

"Hey Rose, you're on this case with me, right?" I said to my intern colleague

"Oh hey Jamie, I sure am" She gave me a warm smile

I grabbed up my tablet and opened the patient's file. I checked the name and froze. I took off full sprint, completely forgetting about Rose. When I arrived at the room Maggie was already there.

"Dad, what the hell?" I said, rushing in to my Dad's bed side

"Hey princess" he gave his cheeky grin

"Dad!" I complained as I blushed at his embarrassing comment "Why didn't you call me?" I said sternly

"You're too busy to have to think about an old geyser like me" he joked "besides your brother helped me out, I just let it get a little out of hand I guess"

"How come Blake didn't call me? He knew I'd be able to help" I said frustrated

"I warned him not to bother you" he said protectively

I shook my head at his foolishness

"And what do you mean by 'a little out of hand' what's the problem?" I said sternly as I checked his file as I watched him remove his blanket from the corner of my eye

"Dad!" I shouted as I saw his severely swollen legs. "Peripheral edema?" I asked looking back at Dr Pierce and she simply nodded sympathetically in return. I hung my head in anger.

"Dad you're a stubborn idiot you know that?!" I gritted my teeth as I looked up at him

"Jamie Grace Quinn don't you dare speak to me like that. I am your father! I know it looks bad but Dr Pierce here says she can help me!" He said sternly at first then with hope in his tone "And you're here to take care of me too, so I'll be fine"

"Actually Mr Quinn" Maggie started "I'm afraid I can't let Jamie help you, she's your daughter and we have a strict policy about operating on family members" she frowned slightly

"Dr Pierce!" I begged

"Dr Quinn you know the rules. If I had had any indication that he was your father I wouldn't have asked you to scrub in. Dr Smith will prep him for surgery and scrub in. I need you to finish my post ops and discharges." Maggie said sternly

I furrowed my brows in frustration and began to rub my temple with my fingers, feeling my head begin to pound. I kept my mouth shut and left the room without saying another word.
