"Good morning buddy" I grinned from cheek to cheek as I lifted Kayden from his cot "Happy Birthday little man" I whispered as he snuggled his sleepy little head into my neck

My little man was 2 years old today and things are a lot different than this time last year. Last year Kayden was surrounded by friends and family but especially his mom. This year, it was a quiet morning. I woke up before Amelia and once I heard Kayden beginning to wake I decided to take him to the kitchen for some breakfast.

Amelia has been here 6 months now and I love having her around, and so does Kayden. Her company and her love means more to me than she could imagine.

"Morning" she said as she stifled a yawn, her feet dragging her slowly into the kitchen, where I had some pancakes waiting for her

"Hi" I smiled as I kissed her softly on the cheek

Her cheeks were always so soft, I can never resist stealing a kiss and every time I do, the sweetest little blush paints her cheeks a rosy pink and her smile stretches from ear to ear as her eyes face the floor and every time she does that, I place my hand under her chin and raise it until she is looking directly into my eyes

"I love you" I whisper every time

"I love you too" she replies without fail

And it was moments like that I learned to absolutely cherish every single second. She had never been loved before. Correction. She had never been loved right before. Did Ryan love her? Maybe. But his addiction came first. So I knew that I had the honor to love her first and to be loved by her.

"Happy Birthday little man" she smiled as she walked up behind him and wrapped her arms gently around him and placed a sweet kiss on the side of his head "I got you a little something" she giggled playfully as she ran to the utility room at the back of the kitchen

I gave her the look, as if to say she really shouldn't have. Everyday is like his birthday when he's with Amelia and I tell her not to spoil him too much or he'll get used to it.

"What" she moaned, with a smile still hinting at the side of her lips "You never let me spoil him" she pouted, she then turned and walked in behind the door, bringing out a huge T-Rex toy. Kayden adores dinosaurs.

"Amelia" I smiled and shook my head

"Today is his birthday Jamie and I am going to get him everything his heart desires" she joked as she walked towards him with the toy

"Here you go my little prince" she cooed as she placed the toy in front of him

His face lit up as he watched the toy come to life in front of him as it made all manner of noises.

"Oh and one more small thing" Amelia broke the silence as she reached into a bag that sat in the corner of the room.

She pulled out a small white lab coat and on it Kayden Robbins-Quinn was stitched, with a small stethoscope attached. Seeing the name, my eyes began to water and I had to turn away so Kayden wouldn't see. Arizona would have loved this.

"Jamie" I heard Amelia whisper as she drew nearer to me "Babe, I didn't mean to upset you, I just thought-" she started to apologize but I stopped her before she could feel any worse

"It's adorable Amelia, really. Thank you, you're too good to him" I smiled and before I could dry my eyes, Amelia's delicate hand reached up and cupped my face as she wiped my cheek gently with her thumb. She then placed her lips gently on mine for just a second and turned away, placing her attention back on Kayden.

"So buddy, what are we doing for your big day?" she said enthusiastically

"Rahhh" Kayden growled as he tried to mimic the sound of his dinosaur
