Chapter 26: LIZ AND JESS

"I'm getting married."

Silence.

We all stared at Jessica blankly.

Then Elizabeth exploded.

And while she didn't yell or cry or even look like she had any emotion in her, the coldness of her voice was enough.

"You... You're getting married?" She whispered, her voice colder than ice. She was still in her seat and was staring at Jessica intently.

"Y-yes." Jessica responded, a bit nervous.

"When?"

"Sometime at the end of this upcoming school year. In May, perhaps." Jessica regained a grain of confidence.

Elizabeth got up.
"No."

Elizabeth's eyes flashed with anger and sadness. She turned around to face the door.

"No? What do you mean... no?" Jessica asked, surprised. She got up too.

Elizabeth answered, the ice in her voice unwavering,
"Just that. No."

Jessica went to stand only about 10 feet behind her. She crossed her arms and said,
"You can't tell me what to do. I want to marry Daniel. And you can't stop me."

Elizabeth then looked down and quietly said,

"Then I'm sorry, Jessica. We can't be friends. I'm sorry. Good bye."

And she swept out of the room, leaving the rest of us in shock to watch her leave.
