I Fought

Challenge accepted,
Duty declared,
I thought that day
When my job was aired.

So you're conscripted too?
For the battle we share?
To save the people we love,
Don't you see how scared,

We are to face our demons
That belong to the highest of roles,
To slice and burn and shoot
For the saviour of our souls.

The tears we will stream
Unseen by the world
When we kill innocent men
And the horrors unfurl.

When we are dead and buried
When they remember our names
For fighting for a country
Who hides so much shame.

Keep remembering we think
Because them men and women did good
Keep remembering those humans,
Who were truly misunderstood.

Because the word hero
Should be used for those who
Had families, kids, parents, pets
Whose lives were lost so soon.

So a country could prosper
Lead by corruption and fools
Whilst the rest of us do nothing
And wait for them to choose.
