Saturday

I invited my friend June to the Massachusetts Institute of Technology for a special presentation of my Fathers new tech.

The limo driver pulled up to the massive convention building, that had hundreds of excited people flooding up the stairs and into the main entrance "Thanks man" I patted the drivers shoulder, handing him a few crumbled 100's before climbing out of the back seat and holding the door open for June.

The phone in my back pocket buzzed, alerting me of a text. I closed the Limo door and started for the entrance, pulling my phone out from my pocket "Oh look, a text, I never get those" I said sarcastically.

"Story of my Life" June turned on her phone to see if she had received any new notifications, which she hadn't. You could say that we were the most popular, yet the least popular girls in schools "no texts, the messages, no instagram likes"

"Same" I rolled my eyes.

"Jes, you have like 2 million followers on Instagram, I'm pretty sure you get notifications" She crossed her arms, giving me a raised eyebrow. I shrugged, she wasn't wrong. The only thing I post on Instagram are selfies and memes. Dad doesn't want me uploading photos of anything inside the tower or even the iron man suits, which of course is understandable. Nobody absolutely needs to see that anyway.

I typed in the 4 digit passcode to my phone and tapped on iMessage.

There was a new text from Pepper.

Pepperoni Potts : Hey Jes, hate to do this but I won't be able to make it to the presentation today, sorry honey.

"Wait, what?" I stopped in my tracks at the foot of the stairs. June stopped and turned around to face me. She glanced down to me phone in confusion.

"What?" She asked as wind blew her blonde hair over her eyes. She moved to brush it away.

"Are you serious?" I started a new text.

From Me : Wait, what do you mean? You're suppose to be here, you have to!

From Me : This is our company Pepper!

Pepperoni Potts : Sorry hun, some... complications have come up and have prevented me from attending.

From Me : Well, what does that mean?

Pepperoni Potts : Ask your Father, he'll tell you, I have to go

I left her on read. I can't believe she did this, it's been almost a month since I've last seen her, and she decide to bail last minute? She promised that she'd be here, she's suppose to present! It's as if she doesn't want to see us "You okay, Jessi?" June asked. This was suppose to be a good day, for just one day all of the bad moments should've faded away.

I tucked my phone in my back pocket and forced a smile "fine... a friend was just reminding me of some math homework... that I totally forgot to do" June smirked, giving a small shake of her head. She believed me, phew. I rubbed the back of my head, my shoulders sinking in disappointment. I walked behind her and we entered the convention.
