Love At First Sight

Ah, Love at first sight. How many (if not most) characters form relationships in the series, and in fanfics.

I personally don't believe in love at first sight. Frankly, it's not love. Sure, you might feel mutual romantic or sexual attraction.. But that isn't love. Not yet.

I don't care that much if this is included in background characters. But please don't use it for your main characters!

Why, young kits? Because it's boring. Whoop, there it is. The cold, hard fact. As a reader, I don't want to know attractive Cypresstail is. I want a development, one that gives me time to fall in love with the ship.  I want to see actual development!

People don't just fall in love. You've got your loved enemy - to - lover, friend - to - lover, even your acquaintances - to - lovers.  Most romantic relationships nearly all (probably all) have a stage of friendship before lovers. Heck, this time might be a suggestive flirty time, but they're still friends... Of a sort.

Really get into that relationship development. Include fights, they're inevitable. Include adorable ship moments. You'll want to have "dates" like running, walking through the territory, swimming, hunting together, even play fighting together. Have them make their own Clan like Lionpaw (Lionblaze) and Heatherpaw (Heathertail) did. Or they could even create a whole new social structure. Just... Have some dates. Include deep moments, like learning what really goes on inside each other's heads - their insecurities, worst and best memories, any "dark" thoughts (Don't do the whole "I'm so depressed and suicidal, I'm going to cut myself, I wanna die!!1! shit. That's not how depression, being suicidal, or self harm works at all. Note there are other forms of self harm than cutting.)

Just.. Develop it. Encounter setbacks that impact the two permanently. Have beautiful ship moments. Develop the characters in the relationship, how do they grow and change as the relationship impacts them?

And anyway, if they're in the same Clan, they will have known each other already. So how would it be love at first sight anyway?
