"The worst kind of pain is seeing someone you love in pain."

Jake and I drove back to my house after we had finished breakfast. I had slipped my jeans back on but didn't take off his shirt. It was comfortable and the air outside was a bit chilly so wearing the t-shirt was a much better choice than wearing a tank top.

Thankfully, we listened to Fall Out Boy along the way and unlike the time we first drove along the countryside, I wasn't staring at the scenery.

I was staring at Jake.

I figured that it was because of the new revelation I had gone through the day before. The fact that I realized that I was in love with Jake didn't amplify my feelings for him but it sure did make things clearer.

I noticed small things that I usually wouldn't notice with any other person. His left corner of his mouth turned up higher than the right when he smiled. When he was really happy, the hazel flecks in his eyes shone so brightly that they appeared green. He had a small beauty spot right under his cheekbone.

I bit my lip and looked away quickly before I could be caught again. I wasn't exactly good at stealing glances and so every time I thought I was being subtle, Jake would point it out.

It made my situation completely awkward, but luckily Jake didn't seem to think I was weird or mind it at all. He would simply give out a short chuckle before turning back to the road with a smile on his face.

Before I knew it, we were back in my neighborhood and were driving down my street. As we passed the school, I looked at Jake again before he stopped driving. He pulled up in front of my house and turned the key out of the ignition.

He simply stared at his hands on the wheel for a while before speaking without looking at me.

"So, we're here." He stated, nodding his head towards my house. I looked up at it as well and let out a sigh of defeat.

"We're here," I said with much more devastation in my voice. Jake turned his head towards me and smiled slightly as I stared out the window. I made no move to get out of the car and when Jake noticed, he ran his hand through his hair with haste.

"Katie, is there something wrong?" He asked me as he bit his lip in concern. When he released his lip, I couldn't help but notice that it was redder and plumper than before. It seemed like Jake couldn't help but notice either. "Are you staring at my lips?" He asked incredulously. A smirk made its way onto them when I didn't object.

I crossed my arms over my chest in a gesture of a stubborn child. When I got my voice back after blushing uncontrollably, I decided to deny his words.

"I was not looking at your lips. There happens to be a bit of strawberry jam on the corner of your mouth." I muttered like the true idiot that I was. I was almost 99% sure that we both knew that my statement wasn't true for two reasons.

a) Jake didn't have any jam that morning.

b) Jake was also allergic to strawberries.

That's quite the shit storm you got involved in Katie.

"But Katie I don't-" Jake began, the smirk still planted on his lips comfortably. If he wasn't sure about me staring at his lips before, he sure was now.

I shut him up by putting my finger to his lip. "Now, now, Jakey. Let's not talk so much." I muttered quietly so that he didn't talk anymore. What I did had also managed to wipe the smirk right off of his face and now he was just staring at my finger and then into my eyes every few seconds.
