       PIT STOP

━━━━━━━━━━━

MORNING CAME BRIGHT AND QUICK as they picked themselves up from a brief rest to continue their mission. Finn, Monroe and Sterling had packed whatever rations they could grab with a canteen of water each, shared amongst the six of them. It would only last them the rest of the day before they would need to forage or hunt. That was the least of their worries though, with Murphy being their guide despite Finn heading their party.

Jinny wondered where Raulf had disappeared to, and what exactly his role was with the Grounders. For an apprentice, he was brash but knew a damn lot about everything.

"Are we heading the right way?" Bellamy asked.

Her thoughts were punctured by Murphy's drawling voice once again, for the hundredth time in the past hour, asking, "How about we lose these first, huh?" He held up his zip tied wrists in front of Bellamy.

"No. Again," Bellamy answered for the hundredth time.

"Hey," Murphy's tone suddenly got serious

"Hey," Murphy's tone suddenly got serious. "If we get attacked out here, I have nothing to defend myself with."

"I don't care," Bellamy said firmly.

"Here." Jinny bent down and picked up a stick, then placed it in between his hands. "You know how to use that, don't you?"

"That's hardly what I meant," Murphy scowled.

To everyone's shock, Finn marched over and cut Murphy's bonds loose. "Thanks," Murphy said with equal parts relief and cynicism. He was still carrying the stick, which he waved in front of their faces. "Now how about you give me a gun?"

Jinny pointed her rifle at him. "What? You wanted me to shoot you? Which part?" she asked with a gleefully malicious smile as he shot her an exasperated look.

Bellamy walked past them and caught up to Finn. "Hey, what the hell are you doing?" he demanded, pulling on the boy's arm.

Finn whirled around with frustration marked on his face, eyes glinting on the verge of his tethers. Jinny blinked in surprise when she saw the raw emotions roiling underneath his strained facade. "It was Jinny and your idea to bring him along."

"Yeah, because he's the only one who's seen where the Grounders keep their prisoners," Bellamy responded.

"Then we probably shouldn't let him be defenseless out here," Finn told him. "We can handle Murphy."

"So do I get a gun now?" Murphy asked once more.

Jinny bent down to pick up a smooth rock before placing it in Murphy's hand again. "Weapon."
