Chapter nineteen

Jasmine walked through the door and as usual the scent of blueberry candle wafted past her nose. She took a deep breath in and favored the aroma.

Even though it was a relatively warm afternoon her mother had started a fire in the fireplace.

The curtains were only half open barely allowing the light to illuminate the room. The shadows from the fireplace danced on the walls. Jasmine couldn't help but to smile. As much as she loved to be with Dakota she still welcomed the warm, cozy feeling of home.

She laid her sweater on the back of the couch and before walking away thought better of it and grabbed it again. Clung it to her chest while she smelled the fabric, bringing it close to her nose.

Smells like Dakota. She carried it into the kitchen where her mother was cooking French toast.

She placed the sweatshirt on the back of the chair. "Good morning!" She said, pulling out the chair as she sat down.

"Flipping the toast in the air she stated, "Good morning to you." Watching as the toast landed directly in the middle of the pan.

Jasmine placed her elbows on the table and put her face between her hands. "Is there something wrong mom?" She asked, watching as her mom plated the last few pieces onto the plate that was sitting next to her pan.

Putting the pan in the sink. Than turning on the cold water and rinsing the pan. After Quickly washing her hands. She carried the plate to the table. She than opened the frig. "No honey why?" She asked as she pulled out the orange juice. Grabbing two cups out of the strainer and placing them on the table.

Jasmine came out of her original position. "I don't know, because you wanted me home today." She grabbed the cup of juice her mother placed in front of her. Took a sip and put it back on the table.

Jasmine had to admit to herself that it had been a while since she had been home. Other than the other day before the game. Really was the first time she had spent a significant amount of time at home. However, things were just starting to make sense in her world. She really didn't want to be away from Dakota right now. There was too many answers being answered.

Her mom put a few strips of bacon on her plate. "You want some?" She asked, pushing the plate in Jasmines direction.

Jazz took a piece off of the plate with her fingers. Took a bite. "Sooo, how you been?" She asked.

Her mom smiled at her question as she cut a piece of her toast with her fork. While holding it in place with her knife. "You really want to know? Or are you just passing time until I go into my speech?" She asked, pouring some more syrup onto her plate. Looking up through her hair into Jasmines face.

"No! I really do want to know." Jasmine said, dipping her toast into her moms syrup that sat on the edge of the plate.

Her mother reached up onto the counter and grabbed a saucer a coffee cup would sit on. "Put some in this." She said, handing Jazz the saucer.

She took a bite of her bacon and said, "Well, since you asked." Picking up her juice and taking a sip of it. "I had a drs appointment the other day." She looked up into Jasmines eyes.

Jasmine just sat there for a second. She really didn't know what to say to that. They didn't usually discuss this type of situation together. So she fidgeted with her nail and finished her piece of bacon.

Her mom started to laugh. "It's nothing honey. Just thought I'd tell you since you asked."

"Oh! What? What are you laughing about. I did want to know." Jasmine said relaxing a little bit.

Her mother said, "There is one thing I want to discuss with you really quick. Before you're father and brother come downstairs." She pushed her plate away and leaned back onto her chair.

Jasmine stood up and popped a piece of bread into the toaster. "Yeah! About what? What is it?" She asked, grabbing the butter and knife for when the toast was ready.

She than opened the bottom cupboard door and grabbed a paper towel. Ripped it off of its dotted line and shut the door. Put the paper towel on the counter next the butter and waited for her mothers answer.

Within a few seconds of Jasmines full attention. She started, "Jenni called the other day. She didn't seem to happy when I told her you weren't here that you were still at Dakotas? Is there a problem there?" She held her hand out for the toast and the butter when it popped out of the toaster.

Jasmine laughed, "You want my toast?" She asked, handing her the toast and the butter.

"Oh never mind Jasmine. I was gonna put it on the table for you. Anyways, go ahead. What were you saying? Or about to say?" Her mom asked.

Jasmine grabbed the whole kitten caboodle and carried it over to the table. Dropping the knife on the way.

"See!" Was all she said.

"Great mom!" She said, as she put it all on the table and walked over to find the knife. Picked it up and threw it in the sink. Grabbed another from out of the drawer and went and sat in her seat.

She picked up the knife and put the butter on her toast. "Nothing is wrong there mom. They got into an argument the other night and it's been patched up since then. We are all good." She took a bite out of her toast and stared into her mother eyes.

"Okay! If you say so. Are you sure that they fixed stuff? Because I've seen Dakota mad and I've seen Jenni mad. Neither one seem to get over the situation in five minutes. Jenni can hold a grudge for weeks. I remember when you got into it because of Brady that one time. It lasted for along time."

"Yeah! That was a whole different scenario mom." Jasmine said.

She couldn't help but to wonder what Dakota was doing. She probably called Jimmy and their hanging out at the house. Sitting on the porch or making some crazy plans without her.

It was nice to just sit with her mom right now though. That never seems to happen much anymore. When she was younger they spent more time together. However, not so much nowadays.

As her mind drifted to the conversation last night she couldn't help but to put her mothers voice into the background as if it was a tune whispering through the air. She abruptly was taken out of her thought process when her brother and father came bounding down the stairs.

Jasmine could smell the familiar scent of her fathers cologne. "How are you?" He asked, smiling when he saw her sitting at the table. Throwing a quick glance in her mothers direction.

"Bet your excited she's here." Jason her father asked as he sat down and opened the paper on the table.

James took the chair to the left of him. Grabbed a few pieces of toast off of the plate and drenched them in syrup.

"I'm okay!" Jasmine said, answering her dad. Making a disgusted face at the amount of syrup James used.

After a few minutes of watching and listening to them talk. Jasmine stood up from the table. Grabbed her sweatshirt and walked into the living room. Sat down on the couch. Sprawled the sweatshirt out onto her chest and laid there. Turned the television on and fell asleep.
