The song doesn't have too much to do with the actual contents of this story. I've just always wanted to write something and say that it was inspired somehow by Beach Walk, which it was.

What was once the breeding ground of awkward silence and forced laughter soon became the site where your life would change for the better. Edd had driven you out here on a particularly languid Friday evening- back to the site of your first date. All he was focused on was the little black box tucked away in his pocket, hopefully not being prominent enough for your keen eyes to catch sight of.

"We haven't been here since our first date, right?"

"Right," Edd agreed, as he stepped out of the car. "It's been three years, 14 weeks, five days and," he checked his watch, "two minutes since we first started dating."

"And counting," you agreed.

The site in question was a broken boardwalk. It overlooked a man made lake near your neighborhood, and the local children would often come out here and play on the splintery, wooden boards and sheltered underside, where a small lagoon existed. Children often ventured under the massive boardwalk, into their small lagoon, and established a sort of hub of social activity. Every kid on the block wanted to be underneath this dock, especially at high tide, when the sand ebbed away and the lagoon was completely submersed in three feet of water. You had expressed your wishes to Edd three years ago, and he determined that the broken boardwalk was the best place to take you. Likewise, he determined that the lagoon would be the best place to propose to you.

"Wow. This brings me back," you said, and sat down in the sand underneath the boardwalk.

As Edd dodged a sizable crab running his direction, he quickly made his way to sit down beside you.

"Agreed," he said, and sat down.

"You've been giving some very monosyllabic responses. Are you okay?"

Swallowing the lump in his throat, he nodded. "Of course, dear," he choked out, and reached for your hand. You took the offer, though suspicious of his behavior.

Edd was arguably more scared of rejection now more than he was three years ago, when he'd slipped you a note asking you out in your third semester of college classes. Eddy had suggested the idea; the endeavor was definitely one of the better ideas he'd had. He'd also suggested the idea of taking you to the boardwalk as means of proposal. If Eddy kept up with the good ideas and potentially gave him a spouse, Edd would have to repay him in a big way. Taking a fistful of sand tight in his hand, he dug into his pockets, fishing around for the little black box.

"Edd, are you sure you're- whoa."

He gave his usual wide-toothed grin at your reaction. "I take it you weren't expecting this?"

"Not really," you gasped, and clasped your hands around your mouth.

"Uh, oh dear, this is quite awkward. I feel obligated to make a speech."

"Oh, that little black box says it all!"

"Hm. The desired shock of the reveal has been taken from me. Asking if you'll marry me seems pointless now."

"Just say it, you loser!"

"Since you asked so nicely, will you marry me?"

"Of course."

Edd handed you the box so you could view the ring he'd purchased days before. The jeweler whistled when he selected the gem. 'Whoever you're giving this to, that's one lucky person.' He laughed, politely, and paid a handsome amount for his ring. 'Have a nice marriage,' the jeweler had called after Edd once he left the store.

"Damn, this must've cost you something else!"

"The amount I paid doesn't matter. The results were all I wanted."

"You sap. Did Eddy tell you to say that?"

Edd shook his head. "Nope, that was all me," he said, leaning forward to kiss you. He'd grown much more confident. You accepted the invitation.

The kiss could've lasted much longer than two minutes, but a child found you and made a rather crude remark about public displays of affection.

"Come on, we've got to go celebrate in a more private setting," Edd said quietly, taking your hand and leading you back to the car.

You grinned from ear to ear at Edd's bold, more confident side. The two of you walked to your car, eager to celebrate the new adornments on your left ring fingers.
