"I realize that I live on the bubble of insanity. I feel the weight of human suffering, loneliness and despair on me all the time. It's not getting easier; if anything, it's always right on the edge of my skin." -Erwin McManus

Chapter 10: California

A warm smile appeared on my face as I saw my parents, and my sister with this strange new guy at the airport pickup. They waved as they saw us walking over then came over and met us.

"Gwen! Sherlock! it's a pleasure to see you both" My mom said as she hugged us and gave us each a peck on the cheek. My father smiled at us.

"How was your flight?" he asked with a smile as my mother demanded to hold her grandchildren.

"De.cent, too many people for my liking. The flight attendant was obviously having a affair with the co-pilot" sherlock said. My dad laughed slightly before shaking his head.

"Ah Sherlock, you my boy you crack me up." He said clapping a hand on Sherlock's shoulder. He winced slightly before returning his smile. My sister, Ashlyn hugged me then Sherlock, grinning like a idiot before she ran back over to the stranger.

"Gwen I would like you to meet my boyfriend Colonel James or Cj for short" She said with a smile. I froze slightly as my heart pounded in my chest, was this the C.J I knew?

"It's a pleasure to finally meet you, I've heard so much about you" he said with a smile as he extended his hand . I sighed in relief when I didn't recognize his Irish brood in the tone of his voice. I shook his hand firmly before returning his smile.

"Really now, I don't think I'm that interesting"

"On the contrary, I believe that you are." He said with a dangerous looking smirk. I felt a shiver go down my spine, now where had I seen that smirk before?

(Sherlock)

The man stood at about 6'2, he had dark hair, dark eyes,an Irish brood when he spoke that was very similar to Moriarty himself. Expensive Westwood suit, similar facial features, recent tan from working outside , very well mannered, does well in buisness, ex military man based on his stature, steady hands, scar on his left cheek possibly from a knife. Now for a name, Ah theres the name Colonal James Moriarty himself. The man glanced at me then smirked, his eyes asking me if I had found out his little secret.

"Well, the testosterone has reached a all time high" my mother in law said clearing her throat as her husband chuckled. Gwen and Ashlyn were too busy chatting about to notice the tension between me and C.J

"Colonel James Abrams, Pleasure to meet you" he said extending his hand to me. I shook it, watching his expression.

'Sherlock Holmes" I said curtly. Gwen glanced at me, She was confused at why I was acting so unfriendly. I wouldn't tell his secret, not unless it was harmful to her family. We drove off to Gwen's beach house, the ride was mostly filled with the tittering of the girls catching up on everything they had missed. I wanted nothing but to be out of the car and in some place where I could actually think without my thoughts being interrupted by laughter and noise every two seconds . I rubbed my temple, feeling as if my head was going to exploode.

(Gwen)

Sherlock had remained eerily silent since he had seen C.J, I caught the death stare he was giving him. Something was off about this guy, but if my sister was happy that was all that mattered to me

"We'll I hope you all haven't made plans, we were planning to take you to the beach" my mother said with a grin. I couldn't help but to grin, I had missed the beach so very much.

"Today? Or tomorrow? I asked slightly.

"Tomorrow you silly goose it's almost dinner time here" my mom said as we pulled up into the garage. We took all our luggage out and went inside, I was comforted by the familiar smell of vanilla and cinnamon that reminded me off all the years I had spent in here. Sherlock looked around, taking in every little detail. It made my heart melt in my chest, as we had walked in Sky had done the exact thing his father was doing.

"Gwen darling, your father and I are going to go take the Grand babies on a walk with us" my mother called from the tier room.

"Alrighty mom. I think we're gunna head in for the night, goodnight!"

"Goodnight you two" my father said. I smiled at him then grabbed his hand

"Come on Sherly, let's go get settled in" I said taking him to my old bedroom, which so happened to be where we were saying.

(Sean)

"Sean come on just call the chick" my friend said as we continued our game of black ops.

"No, I- she won't treat me the same" I mumbled. He scoffed at me before continuing to shoot at our opponents.

"Since when have you cared about how women treat you?"

"She's my partner in work dumb arse. That partnership depends on trust" I retorted.

"Whatever bro, dude I gotta pause it, need to take a leak" he said pausing the game and getting up to leave. I called Gwen, desperately hoping she would answer the phone. It rang for the longest time before going to her answering machine, call after call she didn't answer, so after the fifth one I gave up. It had been a while since my friend had left. I sighed softly then closed my eyes. I sat in my flat alone, running my hands thought my hair. I couldn't help but to feel guilty for keeping the secrets from Gwen, but if I told her she would never trust me again. All these things burned in my brain before I heard what I though was my phone ring. Staying alive played on my phone and I knew for a fact I didn't have that ring tone on my phone, let alone that song.

"So, you've finally found me" I mumbled turning around, knowing what was going to happen to me.

(Gwen) //the next day//

We wasted no time to get to the beach the next day, Sherlock really didn't want to go but I made him go anyway. I smiled at the sun shining on my face and the cool ocean breeze, as a tradition my family brought the many surfboards we had. I took the toddling twins to where the ocean gently came on the sand, they squealed before sitting down and playing in the muddy sand, I smiled at them and watched as they messed with the sand. Sherlock watched from afar a slight smirk on his face, after five minutes of playing in the sand the twins were done with sea water for a while. I took them back to my parents before taking off my swim suite cover up and pulling Sherlock towards the sea.

"Gwen, no" he laughed trying to pull me back.

"Come on" I said batting my eyelashes.

"Fine" he sighed in defeat as we walked into the sea together. He tensed up as soon as the cold water touched his ankles. I giggled slightly, as I hugged him. He smiled down at me, and wrapped one of his arms around me.

"Have you ever been surfing before?" I asked looking up at him.

"God, no" he said with an exasperated sigh

"You have to try it once in your life!" I said throwing my hands in the air. He shook his head and placed his hands on my hips, his eyes flickered down by my rib age.

"You have a scar from him shooting you" he said slightly running his long fingers over it as he frowned.

"Yeah, it's one out of the many battle scars I have. Now come on we are going surfing" I said dragging him back to go get two of our surfboards. I placed the cord around my ankle then went out to sea, Sherlock reluctantly followed me, copying my movements. We sat on our surfboards as we paddled out further into the sea. Once I saw a wave approaching I paddled toward it and once I was on it I stood up and rode the wave, Sherlock watched with a slight smirk.

"That is humanly impossible" he chucked softly. The rest of the day we spent at the beach and the pier, Seren and Sky were knocked out by lunch, and my genius husband was sunburnt because he didn't find it nessecary to put on sun screen. I was glad to be home with my family, even if it only was a week it was one I didn't want to waste.
