I rubbed my eyes against the harsh light. 

"Morning Doctor!" someone cried. I waved and slipped on my jacket. I was a scientist but my known name was doctor or doc. My team and I were currently studying some suspicious activity near the water. 

"Doc!" Someone yelled, racing towards me. "We found something." 

"Show me." I said. With that we raced off.

"Here." they panted out, leaning forward. I didn't even feel winded. I took a step forward and pushed to the front.

There was a group of people...beating something?! It was a mermaid! I was so excited that I forgot for a moment what they were doing to it.

"H-hey!" I shouted, stepping forward. "What do you think you're doing?" I asked. The group of people turned and looked at me. They weren't my team.

"Non of your business." the tallest on said. He took a step forward and stood towering over me. I stood as tall as I could and didn't move. He rolled his eyes and turned back. He moved his foot back and went to kick him.

I panicked and looked for something. I saw a rock and picked it up. I used all the strength I could and threw it at him. It hit him in the back of the head. He stopped and held his head. Turning around and glaring at me.

"Get her." he said. The rest of them walked towards me. I took a few steps back before I was cornered. 

"L-lets not be rash here." I stuttered. I looked around for something to save me. My eyes caught a pulley system. They must have used it to pull the creature out of the water. I saw the the lever behind them. As the reached to grab me, I used the nearest person and leap frogged over them.

When I reached the lever, I didn't hesitate to pull it. I watched as the weight fell. Making the neat underneath them pull up.

I laughed at how cliché this was but quickly remembered the creature. I turned around and saw the man picking at the creature.

I raced over and grabbed his arm. Trying to stop him. He hissed and turned around, facing me.

"I've had enough of you." he growled. He pulled his arm back and punched me in the face. I fell over and tasted blood.

I looked up as he loomed over me. Before he could do anything, someone grabbed him. It was my team! Some of them came to help me but I pointed to the others held up in the net.

"Get them back to camp. Call the cops."

"What do we say?"

"Say they were hunting animals on private property." I said, standing up. They nodded and gathered all the people up before leaving. 

I almost forgot about the creature until I noticed it laying on the ground.

It was made of bones!? I was so surprised. I took a few cautious steps forward and noticed that it wasn't moving.

"H-hello?" I asked, stepping closer. I was so close that I could touch it. I poked it but it didn't move. That's when it clicked. It was a mermaid...it need water!! I grabbed it and dragged it towards the water that was only a few feet away.

I laid it partially in the water and started splashing water on its face. It was basically soaked and nothing was happening. I froze and thought. 

"Reverse cpr?" I said outlouod. It was worth a try. I filled my mouth with water and hesitantly pressed my mouth to the skeleton. I pushed the water into its mouth and repeated. After the 4th time something happened.

The creature started coughing. I sighed in relief. They looked around for a moment before looking at me. They looked confused before scrambling to get away. They made it into the water and swam away. I didn't move. Now the pain of the punch finally set in.

I hissed as I ran my fingers over my split lip. I was so busy feeling my lip that I didn't notice the skeleton swimming closer. I sighed and let my hand drop.

"Who are you." a male voice asked. I jumped and looked at the skeleton that was now sitting in front of me. I fell backwards and felt the cool water on my back. The skeleton laughed. 

I sat up and laughed as well.

"(Y/n)." I said, putting my hand out. 

"Sans." the mermaid said, shaking my hand.

"So...you're a mermaid?" I asked. Sans looked shook his head.

"Kinda...but not? I'm a siren." he said. I nodded before actually thinking about what that meant.

"Waitttt." I said, cautiously.

"Don't worry. It doesn't work on you." he said. I cocked my head to the side.

"I uh...tried it a sec ago. You didn't notice. which is strange." he said. I decided that I was too tired to think about it and nodded.

"Doc?!" someone yelled, "the cops are here!" I sighed.

"Gotta go. Will you be here again?" 

"Maybe..come here again tomorrow and see." he said, winking before diving underwater and disappearing.

I felt a blush creep on my face as I walked back towards base.

"That damn Siren."
