Am I dead? Am I in heaven? I thought as consciousness seeped into my mind and the memories of what happened, flooded my head. The sudden smell of antiseptic drifted into my nostrils which made me realize that I must be in a hospital. I groaned inwardly. I wasn't ready to talk to anyone. Moreover, this bed was more comfortable and cozy and warm than the one I had at home. I just wanted to lie there without opening my eyes.

What if your legs are broken? I panicked at the thought. Oh no! As quietly as I could, I moved my limbs to know if anything was broken. As soon as I knew all was well, I relaxed and continued to feign sleep.

"Are you related to her?"

"No. I am her best friend and roommate. I also saw what happened." I heard my friend, Tania respond.

"Okay, I will have to come back and check up on her after I have seen the other person. Please, excuse me." Someone was saying in a rich deep voice. I wanted so badly to take a quick peek to see who it was.

"You can open your eyes now. He's gone."

Slowly, I opened my eyes and blinked at the brightness coming in through the window's open curtains. "How did you know I was awake?" I asked.

"Who wiggles her toes and arms when they are asleep?”

I tried to laugh, but coughed instead. "I thought I was being discreet." I looked up at my friend.

"How are you feeling?" She asked as she brought a seat close to the bed.

"No 'I told you so?' "

Taylor rolled her eyes. "You scared the shit out of me. I thought you were going to die." She said as she took my right hand in hers and began to rub it. "You know you are the only family I have. I kept telling myself that I should have stopped you. I should-"

"I'm sorry." I said, fighting back tears.

She wiped the tears that had run down her cheeks and faced me again.

"What happened?"

"I was coming down to drop the trash, that's when I saw the car knock you down before stopping. I quickly ran to you but almost immediately, some other cars stopped too and I just kept shouting for someone to call an ambulance. Before long, we got here and by some miracle, you are alive." I could see that re-living those moments was painful for her. I squeezed her hands gently.

"So who was that earlier?"

"A good Samaritan. He took care of all the bills."

"A good Samaritan? Are there still people like that?" I asked wondering if she was pulling my legs.

"You bet there are. The driver was a drunk kid. He's about seventeen."

Just then, the door to her room opened, and in walked a handsome looking man. He was tall and muscular. He was wearing a dark blue blazer, with a white shirt on a butter coloured pants. It was obvious he wasn't the smiling type. His eyes were ocean blue and they were staring directly at me. All of a sudden, I felt some heat working its way up my spine. My subconscious was telling me I had seen this face before.

"I can see you are awake." He said grimly. "I have taken care of all the bills until you are discharged. Also, you can have this." He handed Taylor a thick wad of cash. "Just take care of yourself." He looked at me again as if to say something more, then thought better of it.

"Who are you?" I was curious. Nobody, absolutely nobody is this good.

"Percy. My name is Percy. I really have to leave now, I haven't had a wink of sleep since last night. Be good." He murmured and left, closing the door softly behind him.

Taylor finally found her voice. "Tania! This should be more than five thousand dollars!" She jumped up from her seat, waving the wad of money in the air. "Now we can pay our rent, pay all those bills and stock up on food! Oh! I can't wait to eat a proper meal!" She stopped when she noticed I wasn't excited. I was busy searching my mind, trying to remember those eyes.

"What is it, Sherlock?" She frowned.

"I've seen that face before. I'm trying to place where I've seen them."

"So? So what if you have? What do you want to do?"

"Nothing. Just don't want to believe that a random person can just be that nice. Either he's an Angel or there's something more."

"Look Tania, you had better not ruin this for me. I am in no way returning this money."

I laughed at the sheer horror on my friend's face. "Of course, we are not giving that back. I was just-"

"Please don't. Because, my stomach is already rumbling at the thought-"

A pretty redhead in white coat walked into the room. "Hi! Tania, how are you feeling?" She asked cheerfully.

"Good considering," returning her smile. She was beautiful. And I also knew she wasn't from our kingdom. The Republic cannot boast of a female doctor or any female professional for that matter.

"I am Doctor Brookes, but you can call me Emily. Now, I am going ask you to do some simple excersies so I can fully ascertain that there are no broken bones anywhere, okay?"

I nodded and glanced at Taylor who had pocketed the cash and was watching solemnly, her eyes glazing over. I knew she was back to re-living my accident.

I lifted my legs, tried to raise my upper body and my arms until the pretty Doctor was satisfied.

"What about Mr. Percy?" I asked. Maybe the doctor would know him.

"Percy?" She asked writing something unto her pad.

"The um guy, I mean, the man who paid our bills," I glanced at Taylor who was rolling her eyes.

"Oh, they have left, along with the young man who knocked you down. I think they are siblings or family. Okay, you are good. It's a miracle that you didn't break anything. I will leave you to rest." She turned to Taylor. "She needs to rest as well as you. So try to take a break, okay?"

"Yes, Doctor Brookes. Thank you."

The doctor nodded at me and left us alone.

"Taylor, quickly Google the royal family."

"What? Why?"

"Just do it! I have a thought."

Rolling her eyes, she took out her phone and did as I asked.

"Holy mother!" She shouted, staring at her phone screen.

"Let me see." She handed the phone to me and sprang up from her chair.

The Royal family was the ruling monarch of the Republic, which consisted of the King, Queen and three princes. The portrait I was looking at included the man who had called himself Percy. And he was the eldest of the sons. Reading further, it stated that, Percy, which wasn't his real name, is supposed to be next in line to the throne but had declined it and so the next heir was the second son. The last son, who was from another woman the King had impregnated, is the one who had run me over.

"Tania! One of the prince knocked you down!" She exclaimed. She was finding it hard to believe. "No wonder he was so hush hush about the whole thing. He wasn't being generous, he was shutting us up!" She shouted indignantly. "Can you imagine the nerve! Oh how I wish I had taken pictures!"

I watched her rant for about a minute more.

"You are not saying anything." She stated.

"What is there to say? He's gone, and we have no proof of their involvement." I sighed I was feeling tired and sleepy.

"Okay. For now, let's just rest like the good doctor ordered. When we are rested, we will think more clearly."

I yawned. "What do you want to do?" I asked curiously.

"Let's just rest." She said as I drifted off.

Imagine! They met the Prince! A moody but very handsome fellow😉

Please, I would like to know what you think.

Cheers!
