Chapter 14

Moana's POV

Maui and I are currently heading back to his island right now. I'm so happy that I can become immortal if Maui and I were to marry one another one day, which is a really nice thought to be honest. I'm also really looking forward to learning more about Maui's past. He saw where I came from so I think it's only fair that I get to see where we spent a thousand years of his life. I know that he's a bit nervous to face certain reminders of his past, but I'm sure he'll get over that in time. In the meantime, I'll be there for him every step of the way. "Maui, everything's going to be okay." He laughs sadly. "It's funny that you're telling me that, it should be the other way around. Your parents just shunned you for life and threw you out of your own house. On top of that, your grandmother just passed away. Are you okay Moana?"

I put on a brave face not worry him because I don't like worrying people. "I'm not completely okay but I'll get there. I don't like falling apart, especially not in front of people. Holding myself together is my way of coping." Maui raises an eyebrow at me. "That doesn't sound too healthy princess. You know you can trust me right?" I nod and lean my head on his shoulder. "Maui, you're really stressed out. I don't want to stress you out even more." Maui gently lifts up my face in a cupping fashion. "Moana, your problems are my problems. If you're grieving, let me be there to catch you if you fall." Tears tease my eyes but I refuse to let them fall. Maui notices and looks down at me sadly. All it takes is to look at him a few seconds more and burst into tears while he rubs my back in soothing circles. He doesn't judge me nor does he say a word while I cry. When I'm done, he wipes away my tears and kisses the spots where they fell just moments before.

"Do you feel better having let it all out for now?" I nod and blush slightly. "I-I do actually. Thank you Maui." He pulls me close to him and hugs me tightly. "You're very welcome Princess. Listen, there's something I need to tell you. I'd said it in a general fashion, but I want to say to you personally so it feels more real." I silently motion for him to tell me what he wants to tell me. Maui stares into my soul and places a hand on my cheek, stroking it. "I love you Moana. I'm not expecting for you to say it back right now, but I just needed those words to be said aloud to you." My heart begins to race and the heat rushes to my cheeks. "Maui, I love you too." He looks at me in shock while smiling adorably down at me. "I wasn't expecting you to say it back so soon, but I'm really glad you did."

I grab a hold of his hands and take them in mine. "Maui, I know you're scared for me to see certain parts of your island. I also know that there a few bad memories there that haunt you. I want to learn to all about you, even the details of your past. I'm not just here for good times, I'm here for the bad ones as well. You saw where I came from and I think it's fair that I get to see where you came from. If you don't want to stay there for more than a few days, we can leave after that and go elsewhere." Maui squeezes my hands back. "I'll get back to you on that after we spend a few days there. If things aren't too bad there, I'll consider staying. In other words, let's say it's a work in progress." I nod in agreement. "Sounds like a plan Maui. For the record, you and I are both works in progress ourselves." Maui smirks at me before bursting into laughter, causing me to do that same. "No kidding, though we're awesome works in progress." I giggle. "I think so too."

For the rest of the evening, we stay off of super serious subjects and goof around in every way, shape, and form. Both of us are trying our best to make the other laugh as much as possible because we don't want to see the other be sad. As for me, I'm over the moon about the good news we received from Te Fiti, the fact that Maui and I have officially proclaimed our love for one another aloud, and I get to escape the jerks from school and even my parents to some degree. Not all change is bad. In fact, I think these recent changes are pretty good for the most part.

Hoped that you guys liked this chapter! I actually managed to update today so I'm proud of myself haha. By the way, I know her parents are horrible people in this fanfic, but in the movie itself they're wonderful, that's why I used the edit above. I think it's really nice. :) -Mary
