Chapter 21

Maui's POV

Two days later...

Moana and I are leaving now for California, which is only three days away instead of seven (a full week) like Florida is. I helped Mo put her things in storage before putting away a few of my own. I then untie the boat from the dock and we sail out onto the open seas, beginning yet another memorable journey. "So princess, how does it feel knowing you'll be on in your dream vacation destination in just three days time?" Moana gives me a thousand watt smile. "It feels amazing. No actually let me rephrase that, it feels like a dream come true." I smile lovingly at her. "I'm glad we're going on this trip together. I've only been to California once and that was two thousand years ago to pull up some islands not too far from San Francisco."

Moana's staring at me with admiration, which causes me to blush intensely. "Maui, you're so amazing." I chuckle. "I remember when you chanted that in my ear. It was the best confidence boost ever." She giggles adorably. "The same thing goes for when you did it back to me right before I placed the heart of Te Fiti right into the palm of your hand." I stroke her cheek gently. "So princess, what part of California are you most excited to see?" "I would definitely say the L.A. area. I used to have dreams of becoming a pop star. I'd be like most people and move out there, sell my soul for awhile, and hopefully land a record deal at some label like Capital Records or Atlantic Records." I smile. "You wanting to be a pop star doesn't surprise me at all. Between your bubbly personality, passion, and amazing singing voice, I bet you would have been a big hit." She sighs. "That would have been nice... but I've moved on from that dream."

I frown slightly. I took the chance of Moana achieving one of her dreams away. That doesn't sit well with me. "Moana, I'm sorry that you didn't get the chance to pursue that dream." She puts a hand on my shoulder. "Maui, you need to stop apologizing for everything. Unless you actually are at fault for something, you don't need to apologize. It isn't your fault that I didn't have a great childhood, got raped by my father, etc." I sigh and wrap my arms around her from behind, leaning my head on her shoulder. "I know, but I just feel guilty for not being there for you during those times." She looks at me sadly. "Maui, you didn't know me back then and vice versa. I knew about you from the stories that my grandmother used to tell me. I was fascinated with you since I was three years old. I didn't want to admit back when I first met you because you were egotistical enough as is, but I was so excited to meet you, even though you almost destroyed the world."

I roll my eyes. "Way to make a guy feel good about himself." She rolls her eyes back at me. "I'm sorry Maui... I'm just being honest. I could be more of a jerk and bring up that one time when you left that really bothers you but I won't." My facial expression softens. "Thank you. I still feel guilty about that to this day, though I did promise I'd never leave you like that again. So far I've managed to keep my promise. Right?" She nods. "You've kept your promise Maui. As for leaving again, I know you won't. You're not that same person. You've grown so much as person these past few months. I'm so proud of you baby." I raise an eyebrow at her. "Baby?" Moana blushes like a tomato. "It slipped out. I'm sorry. If you don't like being called that, I won't call you that again." I grin from ear to ear. "I don't like it... I love it!" She frowned for a few seconds before returning my grin. "Well to be honest Maui, it sounds better coming out of your mouth, especially given how hot you are."

I pinch her cheeks like she's a little kid instead of teenager who's almost an adult. "Aw my princess thinks I'm hot, how cute." She pouts. "Stop it Maui, you know I don't like it when you pinch my cheeks like that. The only person I allowed to do that was my grandma Tala. When you do it, you just remind me that I'm fat." I look at her as if she's insane. "I'm sorry, did you just say you were fat? Like what? No you're not. You're absolutely perfect Moana. Don't ever say that you're fat again. Okay?" I practically stare into her soul as I wait for an "okay", which comes a minute or so later. "Good." I bend down and give her a gentle peck on the lips before putting my focus on sailing while Moana takes a nap. We plan on taking turns sailing, me taking the first shift. When Moana wakes up, she'll take over for me. I can't wait to get to California and neither can she.
