S*JAKE*

"Have you guys seen Thea?"

Bungad na tanong ko pagpasok namin sa dining hall ng mga Alcantara kasama sila Jethro, Aya at Laiza. It was dinner the next day and the adults were back from where ever.

Sila Nana, Mama Val, Mama Angie, Tita Cecile, Tita Janice, Tito Onin, Tito Jan and his wife Tita Kris, yung magpipinsan (minus Kuya Max and Ate Ali) and Kuya Rob were here.

All of them present except Thea.

"Hindi pa po, Kuya." Sabi ni DJ na nakaupo na sa pwesto niya. "Kanina pa pong hapon yung last na nakita ko siya."

"Wala sa kwarto namin. I was there." Ninay.

"I haven't seen her all day." Kuya John.

"Baka nagtampo na sayo." Ate Kate chides habang katabi niya si Kuya Rob. "Si Sophie daw ang mahal mo. Hindi daw siya."

 

I smirked as I pulled out a seat for Aya. Si Jethro din inalalayan si Laiza. And they sit down. Nakatayo parin ako.

Kanina kasi, si Thea, nag walk out on yet another Sophie tantrum. Ayaw kasi ako palapitin ni Sophie sa kanya, because she saw us yet again, making out and the little girl cried again, claiming we were trying to replace her.

Kinailangan alohin ko muna ulit siya and after her sister got annoyed and walked out, I explained to her that we weren't really doing anything wrong. And that making another 'baby' would require much more decision than kissing.

That was about three hours ago.

I see Thea's usual seat sa tabi ni Ninay at sakin. Empty.It was unusual for her to be late for dinner.  She deemed it impolite.

"Jacob, apo. Sit down." Sabi ni Nana. "Sit down. Sit down."

"You're rocking the boat Kuya!" Sophie says cheerfully across the table, earning laughter from everyone.

Can't you help smiling and loving that little kid?

"Apo, please sit down, you're rocking the boat." Sabi ni Nana, smiling. "I've had people call on Thea. Dinner's gonna be served in a minute."

I did what I was told and true enough, bumukas na yung double swinging doors papuntang kitchen and trays and platters were served. Nagsilabasan na yung mga katulong and we were served food.

Ang dami. Roast beef with potatoes, Chicken Cordon Bleu, Sweet and Sour Fish, then Cream of mushroom soup and Crab and Corn soup. Naghanda din ng Fried Rice and steaming Chopseuy, saka Pork Liempo in Barbecue Sauce. I see Thea's friends look at the filled table in surprise. Normal dinner for this family I guess.
