Hinawi ko lang yung buhok ni Andy habang pinagmamasdan ko siyang natutulog. She looked so peaceful and so gentle that I couldn’t help but press a kiss on her forehead.
I remember her smiles and her laughs, the way she happily stares at things curiously. The way she’d think of something completely unparrallel to what she’s currently holding or doing.
The simple ways that Thea had me wrapping myself around her little finger.
Nakakatuwang isipin saka nakakalungkot na rin. Kasi yun yung dahilan ngayon kung bakit siya nahihirapan. She was so different now. So carefree. Still out of the blue but so uncovered that she actually thinks her thoughts out loud.
Sobrang laking pagkakaiba nila.
“Andy…” sabi ko sa kanya. “Andy, wake up. Malapit nang mag dinner. Baka malipasan ka ng gutom.”
She slowly stirs, and her eyes flutter open, surveying her surroundings saglit, the registering her eyes on me. I smiled at her.
Nagsimula siyang tumayo ng marahan. “I fell asleep.”
“Yeah, just like you used to do before.” Sabi ko sa kanya. “You’d fall asleep kahit na nagkukwentuhan tayo, but I don’t get offended though, kasi alam kong hindi natutulog ng maaga sa gabi, tapos maaga ka pa nagigising.”
She sits up completely, and I sit down beside her. Tinignan niya yung buong kwarto niya, no doubt medyo nagtataka kasi nailigpit na yung mga nakakalat na gamit na pinagkukwentuhan naming kanina. Ibinalik ko na kasi sa box yung mga gamit niya noon, putting it on the corner of her room so she couldn’t see it.
“Si Sophie?”
“Lumabas.” Sagot ko. “Courtney and Keith came kanina for her. I had them take her out a bit, you know. Take her mind off things. Darating na rin yun mamaya maya.”
She nods, not saying anything at nanatili lang kaming nakaupo dun. Siya with her legs covered with the blanket tapos ako, nakaupo sa taas nito. It was quarter to six, kaya inopen ko na rin yung lampshade sa tabi ng bed niya kanina. She stares blankly at space at tahimik lang kaming dalawa.
Of course, there’s no sign of her talking.
“Close talaga noon pa man si Sophie sa kanilang lahat. Bukod sayo at sa akin, paborito niya si Nico at si Keith kasi lagi siyang pinagbibigyan nung mga kumag nay un. Si Courtney naman at si Aya ang nagdidisiplina kay Sophie na hindi masyadong maging spoiled.” I tell her. “Kaya kahit papaano, madisiplina si Sophie.”
Nakatingin lang siya sa akin. I smiled at her.
