Poem #133

"People ask me why I stay up so late
Why I even do that to myself
They start to get worried and beg me to sleep
But what they don't understand is by doing this I'm saving myself
Saving myself from the terrors that crawl into my head when I'm sleeping
Making me wish I could just shut my mind off
They don't understand that staying up  late helps me have time to think about everything
Over and over and over
Think about everything I've messed up and how I should fix it
Think about the words to say to the people I love
And how to cover up my sadness the next day
After all,
A few hours of sleep a night keeps the nightmares out of sight."
