"Would you like to see him?" Augustus's mother spoke, snapping me out of thoughts.
"Yes, please." I croaked. I jumped up and walked briskly with Gus's mom.
I needed to see him,
"Calm down, honey! He's still in quite a bit of pain." She whispered gently.
"I'm sorry."

We slowly opened the door to Gus's room, where his father was conversing softly with Gus. When he turned his head to face me, his face lit up.
"Hazel Grace!" He exclaimed. I stepped into his outstretched arms.
"Augustus Waters." I whispered. "You're magnificent."

I walked into the door, light on my feet. The star-crossed love of my life was alive.
I just hoped everything would be the same. Now, with thoughts that pain had to be lived with shoved into the back of our minds, heavy as a brick, I just hoped Gus and I wouldn't treat each other differently.
I knew he hated the look he got. Like a kicked puppy or something. I just hoped, after his near death experience, that I wouldn't be giving him the same look. That I could treat him like he wasn't still dying.
But then it, hit me: I was dying too.
