Mirage
/noun\
an optical illusion caused by atmospheric conditions.

.✫*ﾟ･ﾟ｡.★.*｡･ﾟ✫･ﾟ｡.★.*｡･ﾟ✫*.

I watched,
as the grey fog
flew through
the Raven black sky.

They were barely visible,
but if you focused hard enough,
it was possible
to find a trace
of the smoky clouds.

At night,
I always thought
that the sky
was way too dark.

I felt like one day,
the sky would
swallow the world whole.
A big black hole of oblivion,
I thought.
That's what the sky was.

Even though,
I thought that the sky,
was a monster that was going to swallow us all one day,
it was absolutely beautiful.

The bright specks of lights
littered the dark sky.
Such contrast to the shade of black.

The stars shone brightly,
scattered onto the sky like freckles. Some sparkled more
than others,
and some were larger
and some were smaller.

The beauty it brought was the uniqueness of each star.

If the sky was aligned,
with the bright specks
parallel and symmetrical
to the others,
it would be the opposite
of spectacular.

Wherever you would look,
it would be the same,
cloned image
from the direction
you looked before.

It would be like the world paused,
like in a photograph.
Like you were stuck in a black box,
and all you could see
was the opaque shade
of it's shadows.

The sky,
would've been like
that black box,
if it wasn't for the stars.

But what I also thought,
was that the sky was
one big contradiction.
An illusion.

The monster,
whom surrounded the world
at midnight,
was wearing a
beautiful disguise.

It hypnotized all humans,
convincing them
that the sky was beautiful.
This disguise,
being the bright freckles,
littering the darkness.

The elegant stars,
covering up,
the darkest parts of the monster.
This monstrous pitch sky,
would look diabolical,
If it wasn't for the illusions
the stars had given.

It makes me come to a realization,
that humans are similar.

The stars, I thought.
