This happened after the attack in New York and around the middle of Thor: Dark World.
Loki was sentenced to imprisonment after the destruction he caused in New York and has now been staying in his cell with occasional visits from his brother Thor.
After the death of Frigga in the hands of Malekith which he put the blame to himself everyday, his attitude softens and rarely to never did any kind of mischief anymore, and he starts regretting everything; his actions in Asgard, his attempt to take over the world, the crimes he commit and the lives he took. He started to feel remorseful and afraid, even to Thor whenever he visits.
Despite Thor managing to kill Malekith, extracting the Aether from Jane and offer the feat to his brother and Frigga, Loki still blames himself and Thor could only look helpless at him.
