"This is a dope car" Chris comments as driving down the street in Ned's car "it must have cost a fortune"

"Yeah I guess" I shrug "my grandparents bought it for Ned's sixteenth birthday"

My dad's parents adore Ned, which is more than it can say for my dad. My grandparents give Ned too much attention whereas my dad doesn't give him enough.

"Wealthy family, what's that like?" He raises a brow.

I smirk "it can be both a blessing and a curse"

"Yeah, I understand that" he agrees.

"You do?" I cock a brow.

"Rich parents but I don't get a cent," he says casually "I live with my mum's brother and his wife, and their kid"

"Oh I'm sorry" I look down and feel myself tearing up.

That must be hard, having parents who don't support you. I guess they're probably not in his life at all. I can't imagine having nobody like that.

"Don't be, I've made peace with it" he assures. "Why are you crying?"

I look up slowly to find Chris glancing at me with a half smile. He then glances back at the road.

I fold my arms "I'm sorry" I sniff "it just must be hard that's all"

He shakes his head slowly "It's not something that taunts me anymore" Chris assures "I got over it a long time ago"

I hope the family he lives with now treat him well. It would break my heart if they were cruel.

"Still" I shrug. "Are they nice...your aunt and uncle?"

He nods "they raise Blake and I like we're one of their own...they're probably waiting up for me now"

Dad doesn't go to sleep unless he knows that I'm home safe. Ned isn't someone that he's all that concerned about, much to my dismay. I wish he could just treat him right.

I nod "same"

"Your parents sipping tea in front of the tv?" He teases "speaking in their posh accents?"

My dad does not have a posh accent. Okay, I'm grandparents do, and most of my aunt's and uncles. I guess my dad is too busy for Tv, he's always working.

He's a lieutenant but Ned tells everybody that he's a real estate investor or something like that. Probably so they don't intimidated by our dad being a cop.

I laugh as shaking my head "no, he's probably working in his study"

"And your mum?" He half smiles.

"Don't have one" I blurt out. "She uh left when I was three, so..."

Generally, I respond with a calculated answer that wouldn't require many questions. I didn't this time. I guess I'm at ease with Chris.

"I'm sorry," he says.

"It's not your fault" I half smile as I spot my house in the distance "it's that one over there" I point.

The car makes a stop in front of my house. I unbuckle my seat belt as Chris and I jump out of my brother's car.

I open the back door, where I take Ned's arm and place it over my shoulder. He's unconscious now, so it's going to be twice as difficult to carry him.

"Thanks for this" I smile at Chris.

"No problem" Chris nods as giving me the keys. "do you need help bringing him inside?"

I shake my head "no thanks I got him"

"Are you sure?" He raises a brow.

Dad would flip if he saw Chris. I don't want to take any chances.

I nod "yeah"

Chris kisses my cheek "See you at school" he smiles as sliding his hands onto the pockets of his jacket before walking down the sidewalk.

I grin as my body fills with butterflies. Chris really is a nice guy. I'm glad that I didn't stay home tonight.

I press the button on the intercom that's attached to the gate.

"Elise," the woman says through the intercom, in her thick Spanish accent.

"Yeah it's me," I say simply.

Suddenly the gate opens, allowing me to walk up the driveway and to our house with Ned.

I pull the house key from Ned's jacket pocket before sliding it into the slot, twisting then pushing. The door swings open where I immediately see Gina.

Gina was both our Nanny and maid growing up. My family can afford two separate people to do the job but after Ned, Luke, and I stopped being in need of a Nanny, she became our maid.

"Oh, Ned" she shook her head at my unconscious brother whom eye was bruised "Mi niño guapo" her eyes begin to water.

I bet he's been fighting again. With who this time?

"He's fine Gina" I assure her "just help me put him to bed before dad finds out"

She nods "your father would flip," she says in her thick Spanish accent.

I can't help but smile at her use of the expression 'flip'. I guess she learns a lot from Ned and me.

"Yeah" I nod "he would"

She wraps her arms around Ned, as we both guide him through the house, before creeping up the stairs.

"You father's in the study" she whispers.

As per usual.

I nod "thank you"

We arrive at Ned's room, where we gently place him on his bed.

I love my brother, and I know people find it hard to love him sometimes, but I could never see him as a job. I think that's where my father lacks as a parent. He doesn't know how to raise Ned.

Gina and I exchange nods as we slowly exiting his room.

"Good night Mi Preciosa" she strokes my hair as I shut Ned's bedroom door slowly.

"Good night Gina" I smile as we go our separate ways.

Gina goes down the staircase as I slowly walk to my bedroom. I shut the door behind me before stripping to my undergarments. I then put on the striped pyjama bottoms that lay on my bed, before sliding my pink tank top onto my body.

I flick the light switch off, before dropping to my bed. I smile widely as glancing up at the ceiling. I press my fingertips gently against my lips.

Our first kiss. It was perfect.
