Jared pulled out an acoustic guitar and moved his microphone stand closer to the edge of the stage. He peered into the crowd and scanned over all the crazy fans.

"Anybody heard a song called The Kill?"

This was what I had been waiting for. I had seen them play The Kill acoustically back at a festival almost seven years ago, and I had waited all this time to hear it again. I was going to re-live the best Mars moment of my life all over again.

He strummed a few chords. "Anybody know the words?"

The crowd went nuts and I was pushed up against the barrier so hard it almost knocked the wind out of me. I couldn't let careless idiots ruin this moment.

This was when Jared caught my eye.

He could see I looked hurt from the crowd pushing and shoving.

"Hey." He pointed at me. "You good?" He quickly jumped down into the pit and the crowd almost seemed to part at his command.

I couldn't even reach for my phone to get a close up picture of him, or attempt a selfie. I was struggling to stay on my feet.

"Right, a little help here please?" He shook one of the stewards in a high-vis jacket who didn't seem to be doing much to control the riptide of echelon who were all trying to touch Jared.

The steward lifted me over the barrier.

"You hurt?" Jared put an arm around me and led me towards the stage.

"No, I don't think so." I panted.

"What's your name, sweetheart?"

"Y/N."

"Y/N, do you know the words to The Kill?"

I stopped, frozen. I stared at him. For that split second I had the undivided attention of Jared Leto and words failed me. He was standing there, dripping with sweat, wearing a sequined poncho and sunglasses and I wanted to throw myself at him.

"You don't have to if you don't want-"

"Yes." I said. I took a breath and I smiled. "I know every word."

He leaned closer to me. "Do you think you can help me sing it up there in front of all these crazy motherfuckers?"

I laughed. "Let's do it."

He hoisted me up on the stage and then grabbed his microphone.

"Everyone, this is Y/N she says she's heard of The Kill and she's gonna help me sing it cause you know it's been so fucking long I can't remember the words. Say hi, Y/N." He tossed me a spare microphone.

"What's up, London!" I yelled into the mic, a burst of confidence coming out of nowhere. I turned to see Shannon and Tomo smirking behind the drum kit and I gave them both a cheeky wink.

Jared started the song.

The crowd was deafening. I adored the look on his face as he watched thousands of strangers sing his own lyrics back to him.

I took the second verse and his face changed again. I thought my vocals were quite shaky but I'd been used to singing my entire life and just being on stage next to Jared gave me all the confidence I needed.

What if I wanted to fight? Beg for the rest of my life, what would you do? You say you wanted more, what are you waiting for? I'm not running from you...

I addressed the crowd: "Your turn!" I held the mic aloft and listened as everyone sang the chorus at the top of their lungs. I turned and grinned at Jared.

I took my chance to really show off and belted out the middle 8 with all the note runs I could muster until I had no breath left in me.

The crowd went nuts and Jared pointed at me.

"That is how you fucking sing." He said.

I let him sing the chorus alone so that the echelon could actually hear him sing it - after all they had paid to be here to see him and not me. Then we finished the chorus again together. I got a massive clap at the end and I jumped on Jared. He hugged me super tight and when I let go he got close to me so that I could hear him speak without his microphone.

"You're a fucking amazing singer. Come back stage after the show we would love you to hang out with us! Bring your friends, or whoever you're with. I would love it if you did."

I couldn't help but beam at him. "It's a date."
