❝he has a cure❞

Brad holds on to his girl tighter, convincing himself that Ethan was lying. He had to be lying. Cassandra wasn't poisoned. She couldn't be. Brad couldn't be losing Cassandra.

"Ah, yes," Ethan laughs and Cassandra feels her eyes tear up. "Just as I imagined, shock. But you see, I killed one of the most dangerous breeds of Elementums yet you other four will keep coming back to try and stop me afterwards. You'll want revenge and eventually that will lead to your inevitable deaths."

Tristan blows some men away before joining the other pair, helping them kill off the last few attackers.

"My plan isn't perfect," Ethan hums. "Hasn't gone to plan, either. I wasn't expecting you all to be so. . . strong. But she's dying and you only have a day, at most, before she'd gone and I'm sure you don't want to spend any time here with me."

Tristan glances at Brad and Cassandra, confused.

Ethan tilts his head, "I was expecting you to try and hit me, if I'm honest."

"You're not worth the trouble it would take to hit you," Brad spits. "You're not worth the powder it would take to blow you up. You are an empty, empty, hollow shell of a man."

Ethan frowns at Brad's words as Brad holds tighter to his girl, looking down at her as tears slipped through her eyes.

Brad makes it clear he's done talking to Ethan, Brad's heart feeling empty as he held on to Cassandra. The other three boys were confused but they follow along after the pair. The guards let them walk through and Ethan smiles after them.

Brad didn't want to hit Ethan. He didn't want to make him pay. He knew he had to help find a cure, there had to be a cure. He was not losing his Cassie.

Ethan hums with a smile, though disappointed by their underwhelming reaction, "until we meet again."

Connor flips his middle finger back at the man as they exit and are back at the forest.

Cassandra let the fresh air fill her lungs as her knees go weak and she's against Brad's chest. He sits them down on the floor as she cries against his shirt as he holds her close, tears falling out of his eyes, too. He rubs her back with one hand, his other running through her hair to try and soothe the sobbing girl but he was crying too.

Cassandra couldn't believe she was dying, just after she'd found her happiness—after she'd found Brad—and he's losing the one person that truly changed him and made him happy. He felt defeated and he couldn't believe it was reality.

"What happened?" Tristan asks, confused, as Connor helps James with an injury that he had gotten while fighting. Brad moved a hand from around Cassandra's waist to wipe his eyes as he looks up to the blonde.
