T H I R T E E N

As soon as you opened your eyes you knew you weren't familiar with the room you were in. You stretched in the bed, trying to remember last night. You remember binge watching shows with Connor and Hank,it was their attempt to make you feel better. You got out of the bed and left the room and walked down the hall into the living room where Connor sat on the couch with a sleeping Sumo. You smiled at the sight,
"Good morning." you smiled and the android smiled back,
"Good morning, I charged your phone while you were sleeping." he nods toward the table where it lies. You smile and mumble a thanks before picking it up, "Shit! I'm gonna be late, I have to go all the way back home for clothes." you a quickly scrambled around the living room to look for your shoes

"I actually got some from your house last night so you wouldn't have to. If you don't mind that..."

"No that's great, Connor! You're a lifesaver!" You happily smiled

After showering and getting dressed you caught a taxi since Connor and Hank came in a bit later than you today. You strutted into the station;noticing Gavin at his desk,being in the good mood you were in, you put on a smile and approached his desk.

"Hey!"

His eyes glanced at you before he mumbled a hey, he then took another look to realize it was you. His eyes became a bit wider, "Oh..hey, Y/L/N!"

You laughed a bit, "Sorry about the other day. Maybe if I get a bit of paper work done within the hour we could get coffee?" you smiled,hoping you wouldn't regret this

"S-Sure! Yeah...that'd be nice." he looked you up and down with this really perplexed expression; like you were a whole different person. You nodded at his response before hurrying to your desk to start on some desk work. Boring and tedious, but easy and you quickly blew through it; keeping your word, you grabbed your jacket and threw it over yourself before walking back over to Gavin. You recalled noticing his eyes upon you a couple of times as you worked, "I'm finally ready to go, you're really impatient yknow?" you joked

"What?" he stood with a confused look on his face

"I saw you staring, your expression basically kept asking whether or not I was done." You laughed

"Oh that? No actually I was just wondering when you'd notice that dried toothpaste in the corner of your mouth."

"What?!" You reached up to touch the corner of your mouth; feeling nothing there as Gavin erupting with laughter

"Gotcha." he smirked and you rolled your eyes

"Oh haha, come on before I change my mind." You begin to walk toward the door and he follows. You both walk down the sidewalk to this nice little cafe close to the station; ordering your own beverages before taking a seat. Luckily Gavin paid for you.

"So what's up with you? You seem to be in good spirits..." he asks

"Nothing..i just realized I have good people here. That's all," you wrapped your fingers around the warm paper cup, "When I first moved up here it really sucked since I didn't have anyone at first and then starting work at the station made me fear that I'd become truly isolated."

"You don't have family here?"

"No...I don't."

"So you just left your family completly behind to come to Detroit? Why?"

You took a sip of your coffee and let the warmth settle in your chest before answering, "I actually don't have...family." you pressed your lips together and looked down

he playfully scoffs, "What do you mean you don't have family? No parents,sisters,brothers? Nothing like that?"

"No. I'm actually an orphan,never adopted." you shrugged

"Oh..god, Y/N, I'm so sorry. I mean that must be really...." his sentence drifts

"Lonely? Yea," you finished for him, "It wasn't all bad...I had a friend but sometimes it's not really enough since she has her own family."

"I understand. Well, why'd you leave her if she's the only thing you have close to family, if you don't mind me asking?"

"I just...had to get away from something there. Needed somewhere different and the DPD was the closest place I could transfer so...here I am now." you shrug

"I see. Well it's good to have you here." he smirks slightly

"How do you know? We don't even talk." you quietly laugh

"Well," he chuckles, " You got me there but it's not like I haven't tried with you."

You cover your face and quietly laugh, "Yeah..i suppose you're right. But it's not like you were very likeable!"

he puts his hand against his chest and mimics a hurt expression, "Ouch. That's not very nice."

"I mean...you were flirting me from day one! Like a creep and you were pretty rude!"

"You could've just said you didn't like it, I would've stopped, even though you would've been missing out. I'm not a creep." 

"Well how was I supposed to know that," you quietly laugh, "Also I wouldn't mind missing out..." you laugh more

"Wow, you're so rude." he stifles a laugh and takes a drink of his coffee

You smile before glancing down at your watch and sighing, "Back to the station I suppose." You pulled out your phone and quickly noticed the 10 new messages you missed;you basically jumped out of your seat when you realized that they were from Connor and they were about a case.

"What is it?" Gavin raised his eyebrows in confusion and worry

"Can you give me a ride? Connor and Hank are on an investigation scene right now and I missed my ride with them!" You groaned in frustration that you didn't have your ringer on

"Yea, of course I can give you a ride." he finishes off his coffee before standing up and heading out the door with you.
