Three days had passed since Manda gave birth. Her body was worn out and and not used to the way it felt. I insisted she got as much rest as she needed. She argued, saying it was her job to take care of the baby, but I won eventually. We had only been home for two days and we already had tons of people come and see us.

There I sat on the adult bed in the baby's room, waiting to take care of her when she cried

There I sat on the adult bed in the baby's room, waiting to take care of her when she cried. I spent hours just watching her. I still couldn't wrap my mind around the fact that I was finally a father. Before I found Manda, I never would've imagined any of it. I was in love with Mailey. She was calm and beautiful, just like her Mum, even though she looked more like me.

That's when she started crying. I immediately jumped out of place and picked her up out of the crib.

"Ssshh. Daddy's here." I rubbed her little head. "Ssshh. It's okay Mailey."

She kept crying. I kissed her face and held her close.

"It's okay Mailey." I said again.

I had an idea. I usually didn't sing unless it was to back Dan up while performing, but Manda usually asked for it...

"I'll keep you safe
Try hard to concentrate
Hold out your hand
Can you feel the weight of it
The whole world at your fingertips
Don't be, don't be afraid
Our mistakes they were bound to be made
But I promise you I'll keep you safe

You'll be an architect
So pull up your sleeves
And build a new silhouette
In the skylines up ahead
Don't be, don't be afraid
Our mistakes they were bound to be made
But I promise you I'll keep you safe
I'll keep you safe

And darkness will be rewritten
Into a work of fiction, you'll see
As you pull on every ribbon
You'll find every secret it keeps
The sound of the branches breaking under your feet
The smell of the falling and burning leaves
The bitterness of winter or the sweetness of spring
You are an artist
And your heart is your masterpiece
And I'll keep it safe

Dismiss the invisible
By giving it shape
Like a clockmaker fixes time
By keeping the gears in line
Don't be, don't be afraid
God knows that mistakes will be made
But I promise you I'll keep you safe

As you build up your collection
Of pearls that you pulled from the deep
A landscape more beautiful
Than anything that I've ever seen
The sound of the branches breaking under your feet
The smell of the falling and burning leaves
The bitterness of winter or the sweetness of spring
You are an artist
And your heart is your masterpiece
And I'll keep it safe"
