"Good morning!" My friends greeted, sitting on either side of me. "Happy new year, by the way!"

I just merely smiled at them then returned to reading another Webtoon that I decided to download last night. Y/bff/n peered over my shoulder and groaned. She took my phone into her hands, making me sit up and glare at her.

"Ugh! Seriously?! A bunch of pictures with words are more important than us?" She complained, scrolling through the episode.

"STOP! I might lose track of where I'm at!" I exclaimed, grabbing the device from her and looking for the part of the episode I'm at.

"Boring! School hasn't even officially started yet you're reading?"

"Hey! It has an awesome plot! It's about a vampire who decides to prey on a guy with OCD and decides to help him get over it since she's attracted to the energy he gives off because instead of drinking blood, they feed off energy. It's rather cute except her sister and her best friend are annoying." (Can you guys guess what Webtoon this is?)

"For someone who hates the mere idea of love, you sure read a lot of romance." Mitch said, laughing at me.

"That's because fictional love stories are better than real life. If ever one guy is a douche, there's always a plot twist and it never ends on a tragedy or a broken heart."

"YEET! Since when did you get so smart?"

I just laughed and turned back to reading. They continued talking among themselves about another band. I occasionally gave my inputs but for the most part, I focused on the Webtoon. I put my phone away once the teacher arrived and focused on the lesson while my friends carried on with their gossip.

"Hey y/n. Did you know that Shawn's coming back? I heard that he has to retake some of his classes since he barely showed up last year and to think that he's supposed to be a year ahead of us." y/bff/n said, leaning closer to my chair to tell me.

"And I care why?" I asked, jotting down the things the professor was writing on the board.

"Oh. She doesn't know that we ship them." Mitch giggled, making me slam my pen on my notebook.

"Why the fuck would you? I'm sorry but I have standards, unlike you who would sleep around with just any guy."

"Um, excuse me. What did you just say?"

"Ms. Y/last/n, Ms. Grey, is there a problem?" Ms. Smith asked, pausing her lecture to turn to us.

"Can I please be transferred? Mitch and Y/bff/n won't shut up and I'm trying to pay attention to the lecture." I immediately asked, raising my right hand.

"Mr. Simpson, please switch seats with Ms. y/l/n. Ms. Y/bff/last/n and Ms. Grey, please focus on the lesson."

I immediately stood up and transferred to the window seat in the middle row of the class. There was an empty seat beside me which was kind of confusing as I was switched with someone instead of being moved to it. I shrugged it off and continued to listen to the lecture. Not even five minutes later, it was then disrupted by someone walking into the room, hood on and hands in the pockets of their jacket.

"Nice of you to join us, Mr. Mendes. The principal has made me aware that you would be part of this class." Ms. Smith said, crossing her arms across her chest. "There's an empty seat right there. I personally made sure to keep you in sight as God knows what you might do."

He turned his head to the seat the professor pointed out. His eyes immediately met mine as a smirk formed on his lips. I rolled my eyes and scooted my chair closer to the wall, although it was quite impossible considering that I was literally a centimeter away from it. As he sat down beside me, I couldn't help but feel uneasy at the fact that my heart was beating out of my chest.
